When the power is set ON, the POWER indicator above the button lights. • Automatic power ON When a video cassette is inserted, the VTR’s power is automatically turned on. 0 Hi-Fi REC LEVEL controls Use these controls to adjust the Hi-Fi recording level. Adjust them in such a way that the audio level peak display does not exceed +4 dB or so. 0 S-VHS selector Use this to select the S-VHS tape recording system. ON: For recording with the S-VHS system (the S-VHS display lamp lights). OFF: For recording with the VHS system (the S-VHS display lamp does not light). • A VHS cassette is automatically recorded with the VHS system regardless of the position of this selector switch. • There is no need to operate this switch for playback. • Tapes recorded with the S-VHS system cannot be played on a conventional VHS VTR. Q REW button In the stop mode: The tape is rewound when the button is pressed. During playback: The tape is reviewed while the button is held down. Review playback is started when the button is pressed for an instant. To return to regular playback, press the PLAY button. During rewinding: The tape is reviewed while the button is held down. “" appears on the display. @ FF button In the stop mode: The tape is fast forwarded when the button is pressed. During playback: The tape is cued while the button is held down. Cue playback is started when the button is pressed for an instant. To return to regular playback, press the PLAY button. During fast forwarding: The tape is cued while the button is held down. appears on the display. 7 Parts and their functions Q MODE LOCK button When this button is pressed, “L” appears on the display, and the front buttons are set to the mode lock status. When it is pressed again, “L" is cleared from the display, and the lock status is released. Even in the mode lock status, the unit can be operated using the AG-A11 remote controller or RS-232C cable purchased separately. Note: Operate the unit with the MODE LOCK button at the ON setting when the AG-A571 editing controller is used. Q EJECT button Use this button to eject the cassette. • When this button is pressed while the power is off, the power is turned on, and the cassette is automatically ejected. After the cassette has been ejected, the power is automatically turned off. @ INDEX [KKVtXX] button A particular scene can be easily searched and automatically played back if a VISS signal is written at that scene. (VISS stands for VHS Index Search System.) 0 ONE TOUCH TIMER REC ON [+/-] buttons Use these buttons to set the start time for one-touch timer recording (OTR). 0 ONE TOUCH TIMER REC OFF [+/-] buttons Use these buttons to set the end time for one-touch timer recording (OTR). 0 AUDIO OUT button Use this button to select the audio track. Each time it is pressed in the playback mode, the audio track selected changes as follows. 0 RECORDING 2H/6H button 2H: Standard mode (“2H” appears on the display). 6H:Triple mode ("6H" appears on the display). The picture and sound quality is inferior to a recording made in the 2H (standard) mode. • For playback, set the button to the position which corresponds to the mode, 2H or 6H, in which the recording was made. 0 PAUSE/STILL button Use this button to temporarily stop recording or playback. “QQ” appears on the display. Recording or playback is resumed when the button is pressed again. • When the unit is kept in the recording standby (pause) or still-picture playback mode for more than 5 minutes, it is automatically switched to the stop mode to protect the tape and video heads. © STOP button Use this button to stop the recording, playback, etc. © REC button Use this to start the recording. “t> REC” appears on the display. 8 Parts and their functions Other operations © MIC jack Connect the microphone to this jack. When a microphone is connected, all audio input signals except LINEAR wil! be automatically turned off. © PHONES jack Connect the stereo headphones to this jack. 0 PHONES LEVEL control Use this control to adjust the stereo headphones volume. 0 PICTURE control Use this control to adjust the clarity of the picture during playback. 0 DETAIL/NOR/EDIT switch Select the operation of the image compensation circuit as the playback image requires. (When a tape has been recorded with the VHS system, the DETAIL setting functions in the same way as NOR.) DETAIL: Select this position when the image is free from snow-like noise. It is used when playing back a pre-recorded S-VHS tape or other quality recording tapes. NOR: Normally, this position is selected. The snow-like noise is reduced and the picture appears cleaner. EDIT: Select this position when editing a tape.
