WHEN NOT IN USE, STORE ENTIRE SYSTEM OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. INSTRUCTION MANUAL_ HEART-TO-HEART PRENATAL LISTENING SYSTEM™ The Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ is easy to use. You will get the best results by reading the instructions before use. Included with your kit is a CD that demonstrates the actual sounds you will hear with the Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ and provides basic instructions for use. The Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ is a wonderful way to hear and share the precious sounds of your baby's tiny heart. It is a completely safe and non-invasive way to listen to your unborn baby's heartbeats. Unlike ultrasound, it emits no energy into you or your baby. NOTE: The Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ is NOT a medical device. It should NOT be used or relied upon for diagnostic or other medical purposes. This product should not be used in place of regular prenatal care by your physician. The Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ can begin to detect your baby's heartbeats during the second half of your second trimester — typically between 21-28 weeks. See page 5 for factors influencing the ability to hear your baby's heartbeat. t si f Summery E-Mail FEATURES & COMPONENTS: SENSOR UNIT Headphones I — Stereo Cable Jack HEADPHONES (2) POSITIONING BELT Battery Compartment RECORDING CABIE INFORMATIONAL CD SET UP & USE: ~~ Installing the Battery and Belt Step 1: Remove the sensor cover. Place your thumb and forefinger in the belt channel indentations at the wide end of the cover (Figure A). Pull the cover up and then slide it out away from the narrow end (Figure B). Step 2: Install a 9 volt battery (not included). Place the battery into the rectangular battery compartment (Figure C). Be sure to match the + and - symbols on the battery with those on the compartment. Slide base in first and then snap in the contact end (Figure D). Note: To change the battery, lift up on the contact end and pull the battery out. The sensor cover may be used to pry the battery up (Figure E). For more on battery, see 'Battery' on page 6. Step 3: Place the belt in the belt channel (Figure F). r 2 SET UP & USE (continued): Step 4: Replace the sensor cover. Hold the sensor cover at the wide end. Insert the narrow end first, and then snap the wide end closed (Figure G). The belt should slide freely through the belt channel when the cover is closed (Figure H). Using your Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™: Step 1: Loop the belt around your abdomen. Use the hook and loop tab to adjust the belt until it is snug, yet comfortable, with the Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ sensor just below your navel. The purpose of the belt is to hold the sensor in place and snug against your skin. You can use other methods to hold it in place. You may find it more comfortable to position the sensor underneath the snug-fitting mesh of maternity pants. WARNING: Belt poses a strangulation danger to children. When not in use, store system with belt out of reach of children. Step 2: Get into a reclining position. You can hear your baby best while lying or reclining in bed, on a sofa, or in a recliner with your upper body elevated by pillows. For comfort, elevate your right hip and/or knees with a small pillow. WARNING: Avoid lying flat on your back for an extended period of time during pregnancy, especially in your last trimester. Check with your health care professional for recommendations on this matter. Step 3: Turn power on using the volume switch on the side of the product (Figure I). The indicator light will illuminate when the power is on. If the light does not illuminate, the battery power is very low and the battery must be replaced. Install a new 9 volt battery and try again. (For information on battery life, see "Battery" page 6.) Step 4: Plug up to two sets of headphones into the jacks on the sides of the unit to listen (Figure D). 3 SET UP & USE (continued): Step 4: Position the sensor. Use the illustration on this page to help you position the sensor. You may need to try the sensor in several locations before you locate the rapid drumming of your baby's heart. Be sure to remove your hand after you reposition the sensor. When you move or touch the sensor with your hand, you'll notice an immediate drop in volume. That's because the Heart-to-Heart Prenatal Listening System™ sensor is designed to automatically soften the louder sounds that result when you touch or move it. The volume will return to normal when you remove your hand. • Be sure the sensor is touching your bare skin and the belt is holding the sensor snugly in place. • During the early stages of your pregnancy, your baby may be low in your abdomen. As your baby grows, it takes up more space and you may hear the heartbeat higher in your abdomen. The illustration on this page may help you find the best sensor location. Step 5: Listen. Some of the sounds you hear may be difficult to ...
