Insert the cassette. Close the cover. 2. Set the PAUSE Selector to "OFF”. (RN-102) Set the VAS/PAUSE Selector to "VAS” if VAS feature is desired or "OFF” if not. And set the SLE Selector to "ON” if desired. (RN-122) 3. Set the TAPE SPEED Selector as desired. .The ‘'2.4" position is suggested for better sound quality. (2.4 cm/sec., Standard play) The “1.2" position makes it possible to record for 120 min., using 60 min. microcassette tape. (1.2 cm/sec., Long play) 4. Press the REC Button. (The recording level is automatically adjusted.) •The Lighting of the REC/BATT Indicator shows that the tape is running and recording is being made. (RN-122) •When using VAS recording adjust the voice activation level using the VOLUME Control. Normal settings are 4 to 7. (RN-122) 5. To stop recording, press the STOP/EJECT Button. ■ Playback 1 Set the FAST PLAY Selector to “FAST PLAY” if this feature Is desired. 2. Press the PLAY Button. 3. Adjust the volume using the VOLUME Control and select the desired tone; "HIGH” or "LOW” by setting the TONE Selector. (RN-122) 4. To stop playback, press the STOP/EJECT Button. •The monitor system enables you to listen, through the earphone to the sound as it is being recorded. The monitor level can be adjusted by the VOLUME Control. •When recording, previously recorded signals on the tape will be erased automatically. •Recording can be started during playback by simply pressing the REC Button. ■ Silent Auto-Stop (RN-122) When the tape comes its end during playback (or recording), the tape stops moving and the power is turned off. This is called "Silent Auto-Stop”. After silent auto-stop functions, be sure to press the STOP/EJECT Button. ■ Fast Forward and Rewind The tape wiil rewind rapidly when the REW/REV Button is pressed. The tape will move forward rapidly when the FF/CUE Button is pressed. Notes • Batteries installed with incorrect polarities may leak and damage this unit. •Do not mix batteries (old and new) or types (carbon and alkaline.) •If the set is not used for a long period of time, or is used only from an AC power source, remove ail the batteries to prevent potential damage due to possible battery leakage. ■ CUE and REVIEW (when the PLAY or REC Button has been pressed.) The recorded sound can be monitored at a fast speed, as long as the FF/CUE or REW/REV Button is pressed. •At the end of the tape, be sure to press the STOP Button. (RN-102) •If the tape reaches Its end except playing or recording, the silent-stop system will not operate, so the STOP/EJECT Button should be pushed to place the unit in the stop condition. (RN-122) ■ VAS (Voice Activated System) recording (RN-122) In the VAS mode of operation, the recording starts automatically when sound is picked up by the microphone and stops in about 4 seconds after there is no sound picked up by the microphone. This feature is useful to minimize tape waste and lets the user give extra thought to the dication without the interruption of manually operating the start and stop controls while recording. •To use the feature set the VAS/PAUSE Selector to “VAS”. •For normal recording level set to "4—7". To record ioud sounds only, set the VOLUME Control to “1 ~3". To record soft sounds, set it to "8—10". No sound is recorded at "0”. ■ SLE (Sound Level Equalizer) recording (RN-122) SLE i...
