Subject is bright in contrast to the background • Set the exposure compensation to a negative (-) setting or use the spot metering function. Light is shining directly on the subject or reflected off the subject into the camera • Change the shooting angle. Flash is set to on • Set the flash to off. Problem Cause Solution A bar of light (red, purple) appears on the LCD monitor Subject is too bright • This is a normal occurrence in devices containing CCDs and does not constitute a malfunction. (This bar of light will not be recorded when shooting still photos, but it will be recorded when shooting movies.) White dots appear on the image Light from the flash has reflected off dust particles or insects in the air. (This is especially noticeable when shooting at wide angle) • This is a phenomenon that occurs with digital cameras and does not constitute a malfunction. Flash does not fire Flash is set to off • Set the flash to on. Image not showing on TV monitor Incorrect video system setting • Set the video system to the appropriate setting, NTSC or PAL, for your TV (p. 49). Shooting in stitch assist • The output will not appear on a TV in stitch assist. Cancel the stitch assist. Zoom does not work Zoom lever pressed during movie recording • Adjust the zoom before shooting a movie. Reading images from SD card is slow SD card was formatted in another device • Use an SD card formatted in your camera. See Formatting SD Cards (p. 107).
