Instruction Manual Bedienungsanleitung Manuel d’utilisation English Deutsch Francais Jp En De Fr Es It Ck Ch Introduction Thank you for purchasing the AF-S Zoom-Nikkor ED 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G IF. This is a high-grade, internal focusing (IF) lens employing a Silent Wave Motor to drive the focusing mechanism, thus the “S” designation. As a result, autofocusing is smooth, silent, and almost instantaneous. Before using this lens, please read these instructions and the notes on safety operations in your camera’s instruction manual. Also, keep this manual handy for future reference. Major features • Autofocusing possible with Nikon F5, F4-Series, F100, F90X/N90s*, F90-Series/N90*, F80-Series/ N80-Series*, F70-Series/N70*, F65-Series/N65-Series*, Pronea 600i/6i*, Pronea S cameras, Nikon Digital Camera D1/D1X/D1H/D100. Autofocusing with manual override is also provided. (With F55-Series/N55-Series* cameras, autofocusing is not possible with these AF-S Nikkor lenses. Focus manually in this case.) • Manual focusing using focus assist possible with all Nikon AF camera bodies, except the F3AF, F-601/N6006*, F-501/N2020**. • For more accurate exposure control, subject distance information is transmitted from the lens to the camera body, providing 3D Matrix Metering and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash with appropriate Nikon cameras and Speedlights. • Moreover, one aspherical and one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens elements ensure that images that are sharp and clear from center to edges and virtually free of color fringing, regardless of the focal length setting. Also, by utilizing a 7-bladed diaphragm that produces a nearly circular aperture, out-of-focus images in front of or behind the subject are rendered as pleasing blurs. • Closest focusing distance of 0.38m (1.2 ft.) is provided at all zoom settings. * Sold exclusively in the USA. ** Sold exclusively in USA and Canada. Setting the aperture Because this lens does not have an aperture ring, you must set the aperture on the camera body. Focusing (Fig. 2) Set your camera’s focus mode selector according to this chart: 1 To focus manually during autofocus operation, press the shutter release button lightly or the AF start button, while you rotate the focus ring. Remove your finger then press the shutter release button lightly or the AF start button once again to cancel manual focus and resume autofocus. • Due to the optical characteristics of this lens, as the lens is focused closer, the focal length decreases. Usable cameras and available exposure modes There may be some restrictions for available exposure modes. Refer to your camera’s instruction manual for details. 1 P includes AUTO (Geneal-Purpose Program) and Vari-Program System. 2 Manual (M) is not available. Taking flash pictures with cameras having built-in flash Check focal length and shooting distance before taking pictures to prevent vignetting since the flash light from the flash may be obstructed by the lens barrel. Recommended focusing screens Various interchangeable focusing screens are available for certain Nikon SLR cameras to suit any type of lens or picture-taking situation. Those recommended for use with this lens are listed ...
