Drainfuelintoan approvedcontainer outdoors,awayfromopenflame. • Drainanylargevolumeoffuelfromthetankbydisconnectingthe fuel linefromthe in-linefuelfilterneartheengine. • RemovethefuellinefromtheIn-lineside(sidetowardsthefuel tank)of thefuel filter. • Replacementpartsmustbethesameandinstalledinthesame positionas theoriginalparts. • Iffuelspills,waituntil itevaporatesbeforestartingengine. • Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthefueltank.Otherwisefuel canleakoutandcausea fireor explosion. ToDrainthe fuel: 1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichis routedonthe leftsideofthe engine betweenthe fueltankandthe carburetor,andmaybeattachedto theenginewitha tie strap.Cutthetie strap,ifpresent,then pinch thein-lineclamponthefuelfilterwitha pairofpliers,slidethe clampupthefuelline.Pullthe fuellinefreefromthefilterandplace theopenendof the lineintoanapprovedcontainerto drainthefuel. Tochangethe fuel filter: 1. Usepliersto squeezethe tabsonthe otherclamp(theout-line sideof the fuel filter),thenslidethe clampawayfromthe fuel filter. Twistandpullthe fuellineoff ofthefuelfilter.SeeFigure10. 2. Checkthe fuel linesfor cracksor leaks.Replaceif necessary. 3. Replacethefuelfilterwithanoriginalequipmentreplacement filter.Call1-800-4-MY-HOME®to purchasethe originalequipmentreplacementfilter. 4. Securethe fuel lineswiththe clamps. Clamp Fuel Line Air Cleaner Iffilters,or coversare notinstalledcorrectlyseriousinjuryordeath couldresultfrombackfire.Donotattemptto starttheenginewith themremoved. Donotusepressurizedairorsolventsto cleantheaircleaner cartridge. 1. Removetheairfiltercover. 2. Toremovetheairfilter,lifttheendof thefilter.SeeFigure11. f Figure11 3. Removethepre-cleanerfromthefilter. 4. Toloosendebris,gentlytapthefilteronahardsurface.Ifthefilter is excessivelydirty,replacewitha newfilter. 5. Washthepre-cleanerinliquiddetergentandwater.Allowitto thoroughlyair dry.Donot oilthepre-cleaner. 6. Assemblethe dry pre-cleanerto the filter. 7. Installthe filterintothe enginebaseand pushdown untilthe filter snapsin place. 8. Installthe cover. Tab Figure10 Spark Plug 1. Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine. • Enginepartsshouldbekeptcleantoreducetheriskofoverheatingandignitionof accumulateddebris. Carburetor Adjustment • Thecarburetoronthisengineisnotadjustable. LUBRICATION Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO (BladeEngageLever),moveshift leverinto neutralposition,set parkingbrake,stopengineand removekeytopreventunintended starting. Pivot Points & Linkage Lubricateallthe pivotpointsonthe drivesystem,parkingbrakeandlift linkageatleastoncea seasonwithlightoil. Rear Wheels Therearwheelsshouldberemovedfromtheaxlesoncea season. Lubricatetheaxlesandtherimswellwithan all-purposegreasebefore re-installingthem. Front Axles Eachend ofthetractor'sfrontpivotbar maybeequippedwitha grease fitting.Lubricatewitha greasegunafterevery25hoursoftractor operation. Battery The batteryis sealedandis maintenance-free.Acidlevelscannotbe checked. Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalscleanandfree of corrosivebuild-up. Aftercleaningthebatteryandterminals,applya lightcoatof petroleumjelly orgreaseto bothterminals. Alwayskeepthe rubberbootpositionedoverthe positiveterminal to preventshorting. iMPORTANT: if removingthe batteryfor any reason,disconnectthe NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedby the POSi- TIVE(Red)wire.When re-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)wiretoitsterminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE (Black)wire.Becertainthatthe wiresareconnectedto the correct terminals;reversingthemcouldchangethe polarityandresultin damageto yourengine'salternatingsystem. Cleaning Battery Cleanthe batteryby removingit fromthe tractorandwashingwith a bakingsodaandwatersolution.Ifnecessary,scrapethe battery terminalswitha wirebrushto removedeposits.Coatterminalsand exposedwiringwithgreaseor petroleumjellyto preventcorrosion.
