Included in AST is a shock protection device built into the line cord and equipped with a test button to check operation: Before Use: 1. Press RESET button on line cord safety device (A). 2. Plug into a regular AC electrical outlet. 3. Press TEST button and RESET button will pop out (see A) to show safety device is operating properly. Repeat this procedure each time you use heater to confirm safety device is operational. Should RESET button not pop out, do not use heater. Call appropriate "800" number on the cover of this book. At any time, should this unit detect an electrical shock hazard, it will immediately shut off. To restore power, you must press RESET button on the line cord protection safety device to reactivate circuit. Important: During the first few minutes of initial use, you may notice a slight odor. This is normal and will quickly disappear. This heater is intended for use on a flat, stable surface, such as a floor, tabletop, shelf, or desk in a location where the airflow grille openings won’t be obstructed. Do not use in wet or moist locations, like bathrooms or laundry areas, or in areas where paint or other flammable or volatile liquids are used or stored. Caution: Be sure no other appliances are plugged into same circuit with heater/fan. A circuit overload could occur. 1. Plug into an AC outlet. 2. Press ON/OFF button for low heat. The power indicator light will illuminate. Press twice to turn off. 3. Comfort Control (adjustable digital thermostat): a) Activate the thermostat by pushing the COMFORT button (B). b) Set desired temperature by pushing the up ( ) and down (Ў) buttons. c) Temperature range of thermostat will be 65°F – 95 °F (18.3 °C – 35 °C) (+/-6 °C or 10 °F) with a low setting jump to Frost Watch 40 °F (4.4 °C) which will appear when temperature setting goes below 65 °F (18.3 °C). d) Thermostat will shut off when room reaches the set temperature. e) Unit will restart once room temperature has fallen 5 °F below the set temperature. Note: Room temperature remains displayed after unit has been turned off. 4. Mode: This feature lets you cycle through low, medium, high temperature and fan only. a) Press MODE button once for low, twice times for medium and three times for high temperature. Press four times for fan only C). 5. Oscillating feature: a) Press OSCILLATION button on unit. b) Press twice to turn it off (D). 6. Timer Auto Off: The timer can be programmed in one-hour increments up to a maximum of 10 hours. a) Adjust temperature by pressing COMFORT and up ( ) and down (Ў) buttons. b) Press the TIMER button. c) Then press the up ( ) and down (Ў) buttons on heater once for each hour increment you want. d) Unit will shut off automatically once the selected time runs out. When timer and frost watch are activated at same time, unit will turn off according to your timer setting (E). 7. Remote control (F): Requires 2 LR44 or AG13 batteries (included). To insert batteries: Turn remote control to its back side. Slide cover at bottom until it comes off. Insert two LR44 batteries. Close cover by sliding it onto remote control. Remote can be stored in unit handle space when not in use. a) To use remote, point it at the heater with no objects between the remote and heater. b) Follow same instructions as control panel. Note: Remote control unit contains buttons with symbols only. Special features and the Advanced Safety Technology™ (AST) system 1. This unit is equipped with a safety auto off and thermal cut off. If the unit experiences excessive heat, the safety auto off will shut off unit. If this happens, press ON/OFF button to OFF immediately. Be sure front and back grilles are not blocked and nothing is restricting airflow. If unit fails to operate after 10 minutes, it may mean heater has internal damage and thermal cut off has been tripped so heater can no longer operate. 2. Motion-off detection feature: Cuts the power if unit falls over in any direction or is lifted (such as if you move it to another part of the room). 3. Tip-over switch: Cuts the power if unit is knocked over forward or backward. Both are controlled by the tipover switch on bottom of unit. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature. 4. The POWER indicator light shows the heater is switched on and operating. It continues to glow even if the thermostat has cycled and heating elements are off. Even though this unit has a cool-touch housing, both front and back grilles will get hot. Be careful not to touch them. 5. Manual resettable limiting thermostat: Provides backup overheating protection by cutting power in case of overheating. In the event the thermal cut-off is activated, the power to the unit will stop but the power light will remain illuminated. To reset the unit: a) Unplug the unit from wall. b) Wait 10 minutes. c) Plug unit back in and push the RESET button on the ALCI plug. d) Turn unit power on.
