4. Connect the guitar or bass you want to tune or a CM-100L contact mic to the input jack. If you want to tune an acoustic instrument, position the sound hole of your instrument near the built-in mic. If a cable is connected to the INPUT jack, the built-in mic cannot be used. 5. Play a single note on your instrument. The “character display area” in the center of the DT4 will show the name of the note that is closest to the pitch you played. Tune your instrument so the desired note name appears. Note name [A, B, B, C, C, D, E, E, F, F, G, G] Display patterns ¦Strobe mode Play a note, and the note name will be displayed. If your instrument is sharp, the Ў indicator will light and the strobe display will rotate clockwise. If your instrument is flat, the ^ indicator will light and the strobe display will rotate counter-clockwise. When the note is in tune, the motion will stop, and the Ў and ^ indicators will both light. If thirty seconds passes without any audio input, the strobe display area will go dark. ¦Mirror mode Play a note, and the note name will be displayed. Tune your instrument so that the brightly lit indicator coincides with the dimly lit indicator. The brightly lit indicator will be on the right if your instrument is sharp, and on the left if your instrument is flat. When the note is in tune, the Ў and ^ indicators will both light. The display pattern setting and the reference pitch setting are remembered even when you turn off the power. However, these settings will return to their default values when you replace the batteries.
