BL860c i2, BL870c i2, and BL890c i2 network boot fails when attempted
via a boot option added using the OpenVMS utility BOOT_OPTIONS.COM
An OpenVMS boot option, added for network boot using BOOT_OPTIONS.COM, on BL860c i2,
BL870c i2, and BL890c i2 systems with firmware version K26.05, will fail to boot the system,
displaying the message “Boot Failed” on the console. This issue will be fixed in an upcoming
release. Meanwhile, the following workaround can be used for network boot of OpenVMS: Add
a boot option for network boot using the EFI Boot Maintenance Manager. OpenVMS boots
successfully through a network boot option added using the EFI Boot Maintenance Manager.
HP-UX Initialization Process for Factory Installed Images Prior to May 10,
2010
This procedure applies to HP Integrity BL860c i2, BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 Server Blades shipped
before 5/10/2010 with factory installed HP-UX, where preservation of the factory installed image
is necessary. If you do not fall into this category, this procedure does not apply and can be ignored.
Those affected should be aware that your Server Blade was updated at the factory after the HP-UX
Ignite–UX process, and this procedure outlines a series of steps necessary to bring that installation
back to its initialized state. If you are affected, you can choose to ignore this procedure and
overwrite the factory image by using the regular Ignite-UX process to install the HP-UX 11i v3 OE
Update Release for March 2010 using either install media or from an Ignite-UX server version
C.7.10.472 or later with March 2010 depots. If you wish to use the factory installed image, please
follow the below instructions to correct the issue:
1.
During initial HP-UX boot press any key when “Press Any Key to interrupt
Autoboot” is displayed.
2.
At the HPUX> prompt type boot –is to boot into single user mode.
3.
At the # prompt type rmsf –x to remove stale entries from the ioconfig file.
4.
At the # prompt type ioinit –rC lan to reset the instance numbers for class LAN.
5.
The system will automatically reboot after the ioinit command
6.
Complete the setup wizard during HP-UX boot normally.
7.
After the system has fully booted HP-UX, login to get to the shell prompt.
8.
At the shell prompt, type setboot to get the Primary bootpath. For example:
Primary bootpath : 0/0/0/2/0/0/0.0x0.0x4000000000000000 (/dev/rdisk/disk2)
9.
At the shell prompt, type setboot –p to correct the display string at the EFI
menu.
NOTE:
If you were not able to interrupt autoboot, answer no to the first two questions in the
setup wizard and the system will shutdown, allowing you to retry.
Additional memory required for NC532m mezzanine cards
The minimum memory requirements for HP Integrity BL860c i2, BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 Server
Blades assume that no HP NC532m Dual Port Flex-10 10GbE Multifunction BL-c Adapter are
installed. The minimum required memory must be increased by 2 GB for each NC532m mezzanine
card that is installed into the system.
