Getting started
HP Hotkey Filter is a security utility for HP thin clients based on Windows® Embedded. In many thin
client deployments, access to the local Windows desktop and the local Windows file system is not
necessary and might be undesirable. This utility allows a user to lock and unlock their remote desktop
session without affecting the local Windows instance, which helps simplify deployment.
HP Hotkey Filter translates the Ctrl+Alt+Del sequence into the appropriate default keyboard
sequence for the remote desktop client in use. The sequence is then forwarded and displays the
Windows security screen on the remote computer instead of the local computer. This prevents users
from accessing the local computer's security options that are normally available through the Ctrl+Alt
+Del hotkey sequence.
For example, the default hotkey sequence used to display the Windows security screen when using
Microsoft® Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) is Ctrl+Alt+End. By default, HP Hotkey Filter sends a
Ctrl+Alt+End sequence to the remote computer when a Ctrl+Alt+Del sequence is detected on the
local computer.
HP Hotkey Filter also supports the forwarding of the Win+L hotkey sequence if the remote session is
full screen.
