To protect your hands, always wear leather hand protection when operating this shear. Figure 1. Setting gap with shims. Test Run Your Model H2867 has a slide style ON/OFF switch as shown in Figure 2. Before performing any cutting operations, turn the shear ON and listen for any unusual noises. If everything appears to be in working order, you are ready to begin cutting. Adjustments Your Model H2867 includes a set of three thickness shims: 0.005", 0.008" and 0.013". These shims are used to set the gap size between the side of the shear jaw and the moving cutter. Depending on the thickness of the material you intend to cut, one of the three thickness shims is used to set the desired gap. The following is a general guideline for correct adjustment: Sheet Metal Shim • 25 Gauge 0.005" • 19 Gauge 0.008" • 16 Gauge 0.013" Use the supplied Allen® wrench to adjust the gap of the cutting jaws as shown in Figure 1. Figure 2. ON/OFF switch. -4-H2867 Electric Shear Operation If you are cutting a large dimension of sheet metal, use a large flat working surface such as a workbench to support the work as shown in Figure 3. Once the cut lines have been determined, turn the shears ON and begin the cut. Figure 3. Cutting large stock. If you need to trim small pieces of sheet metal, use the shear in a stationary position while pulling the metal through the shears, towards your body as shown in Figure 4. Avoid letting your fingers get to close to the moving jaws. If everything is in proper adjustment and working order, there should be a spiral trail of sheet metal exiting the shear as you make your cut. Figure 4. Cutting small stock. H2867 Electric Shear -5 MAINTENANCE Oiling Shear Periodically oil your new Grizzly shear to help maintain its useful life. Place one drop of light machine oil in the shear jaws (as shown in Figure 5) before every use. Wipe off any excess oil to avoid dust build-up. Figure 5. Lubricating shear. Changing Brushes Over time, the motor brushes will become worn and loaded with carbon deposits. This will dramatically lower the performance of the electrical motor. An extra pair of brushes has been included. To change the brushes, unscrew the small caps on the sides of the shear body as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6. Removing brushes. Slide the old brushes out of the slots and replace with the fresh set as shown in Figure 7. Screw the caps back into the shear body and the shear is ready for use. Figure 7. Replacing brushes. Cleaning Shear Use a good solvent to clean the jaw assembly of the shear. Avoid getting solvent on the plastic body of the shear as it may damage the plastic. Always be sure that the shear is dry before using it again. Do not allow dust, chips, sand, etc. into the air vent holes. This could lead to motor failure and premature bushing failure. Never use use gasoline or other flammable liquids to clean this tool. Vapors in the tool may ignite, causing the tool to explode. Ignoring this warning may lead to serious personal injury or even death! -6 H2867 Electric Shear NOTES H2867 Electric Shear -7 WARRANTY AND RETURNS Grizzly Industrial, Inc. warrants every product it sells for a period of 1 year to the original purchaser from the date of purchase.
