For details refer to the manufacturer of your computer. If Mute is checked, or if the slider is in the lowest position, no sound will be output from the UA-30. Volume Control settings The output volume of the UA-30 can be controlled by the Windows Volume Control. From the Windows [Start] menu, select Programs-AccessoriesEntertainment- Volume Control to start it up. 1 * Before changing the position of the UA-30’s “Sample rate select switch” or “Recording input select switch”, you must exit “Volume Control”. Then restart. 2 You can raise or lower the slider to adjust the volume of the UA-30. The following items can be set. Speaker(*1) Adjust the volume of the analog outputs (line output and headphone output). The digital output will not change. CD Player Adjust the “CD Music” volume for the CDROM drive of your computer. WAVE Adjust the volume that is output from the audio output device “USB Audio Device.” The digital output and analog output will change. SW Synth Adjust the volume of the software synthesizer built into Windows 98. *1 Depending on the version of Windows 98, this may be displayed as “Analog connector”, “Desktop”. Connections and driver installation Checking for sound output After the connections have been made correctly, you can play back the sample data to check your setup. Playing the sample data Here we will use standard Windows functionality to play the sample data. The sample data is found in the UA Software CD-ROM. Insert the UA Software CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your computer. 1 Copy “Alright.wav” to the desktop by dragging it from the “Sample_Data” folder of the CD-ROM. 2 Right-click the copied file “Alright.wav”, and select Properties from the menu that appears. 3 Click the Preview tab, and then click the button. The sample data will begin playing. In order to listen to the sample data, you will need approximately 30 MB of free space on the hard disk that contains your system. 21 Connections and driver installation Did you hear the sample data? If the sample data played correctly, your computer and the UA-30 are connected correctly, and the drivers have been installed correctly. If the data did not play correctly, refer to Connections and driver installation Did you hear the sample data? If the sample data played correctly, your computer and the UA-30 are connected correctly, and the drivers have been installed correctly. If the data did not play correctly, refer to “Troubleshooting” (p. 40). Troubleshooting contains material to help you find and correct such problems. Digitally recording the output of the UA-30 on MD or DAT Make the connections shown in the following diagram. fig.03-01.e * Audio data of a sampling rate identical to the setting of the “Sample rate select switch” will be recorded with no loss of quality. Depending on the application that you are using, when the digital output of the UA-30 is connected to a digital device such as MD or DAT and audio is playing, a certain amount of time may be required immediately after playback ends for the digital audio output to be locked, so that there will be no sound for one or two second, or the tempo or pitch may be wrong.
