“Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear, so click the [Finish] button to close the wizard, and re-install as described in ‘Is “? USB Device" shown in “Device Manager"?’ (p. 35) 7. Click the [OK] button to close “System Properties.” 8. Insert the UM-1 Driver CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. 9. Click the Windows [Start] button, and select “Run... ” 10. When “Run” appears, input the following in the “Open” area. D:\WIN2000\SETUPINF.EXE * Change the drive name D: to match the drive name of your CD-ROM drive. For example if your CD-ROM drive is named Q:, you would input “Q:\WIN2000\SETUPINF.EXE." * Ifyou do not know the name of the drive, click the [Browse] button to check the drive name. 11. After inputting the information, click the [OK] button. * If a message saying that the file was not found appears, check the character string input in the “Open" area once more. 12. The “SETUPINF” dialog box will appear, and the display will indicate “Ready to install the driver. --- ” 13. Connect the USB cable of the UM-1 to your computer. * If in step 6 the “File signature verification" setting is not set to “Ignore," the “Digital Signature Not Found" dialog box will appear. If this occurs, refer to “the caution given in step 6," and take the appropriate action. 14. The “Insert Disk” dialog box will appear. Click the [OK] button. * If this dialog box does not appear, refer to ‘The “Insert Disk" dialog box is not displayed in “Installing the USB MIDI Driver".’ (p. 37) 15. The “Files Needed” dialog box will appear. In the “Copy files from” area, input “D:\WIN2000” and click the [OK] button. * Change the drive name D: to match the drive name of your CD-ROM drive. For example if your CD-ROM drive is named Q:, you would input “Q:\WIN2000. " * Ifyou were not able to perform the installation according to this procedure, use the procedure in “Tried other troubleshooting tips but the UM-1 still does not work" (p. 40) to delete the driver, and then perform the installation once again. 16. The “Found New Hardware Wizard” will appear. Make sure that “Roland UM-1 USB Driver” is displayed, and click the [Finish] button. 18 17. The “System Settings Change” dialog box will appear. Click the [Yes] button and re-start Windows. 18. If you changed the setting for “Verify file signature” in step 6, set it back to the previous setting. (To restore the setting, the Administrator or user belonging to the Administrators group must log on to Windows.) 19. As described in “Before you begin” (p. 19), make settings so that the UM-1 can be used. The UM-1 cannot be used unless these settings are made. Before you begin Before you use the UM-1 with the Windows Media Player 1. Double-click “Sounds and Multimedia” in “Control Panel.” 2. Click the [Audio] tab, and in “MIDI Music Playback,” select “1:Roland UM-1 MIDI.” * If the above “1:Roland UM-1 MIDI" cannot be selected, a problem may have occurred. Refer to “Troubleshooting."(p. 2T) 3. Click the [OK] button to close “Sounds and Multimedia Properties.” 4. Connect the TO MIDI IN cable of the UM-1 to a MIDI sound module (such as the Roland SC series). 5. Open “Windows Media Player,” select a MIDI file, then play back the file. Before you use the UM-1 with an application In the application(s) that you intend to use, specify the MIDI device they are to use. (For details on this setting, refer to the owner's manual for your application.) The MIDI device names and their corresponding cables will be as follows: MIDI OUT device Roland UM-1 MIDI --- UM-1 TO MIDI IN cable MIDI IN device Roland UM-1 MIDI --- UM-1 TO MIDI OUT cable * Ifyou are unable to select “Roland UM-1 MIDI" in the MIDI settings of the application, a problem may have occurred. Refer to “Troubleshooting." (p. 27) 19 To change the settings To change or verify settings In order to change the driver settings, you must log on to Windows as the Administrator or other user in the Administrators group. For more information regarding this, consult your computer system administrator. 1. When changing driver settings, always make sure to first quit all applications using the UM-1. This is unnecessary when only checking the settings. 2. Open the “Control Panel,” and double-click “System.” 3. Click the [Hardware] tab, and then click the [Device Manager] button. 4. Double-click “Sound, video and game controllers.” 5. Double-click “Roland UM-1 USB Driver.” 6. Click the [Properties] tab, and in the Multimedia Devices field, double-click “MIDI Devices and Instruments.” 7. Select “Roland UM-1 USB Driver,” and click the [Properties] button. 8. Click the [Settings] button to access the “Roland UM-1 USB Driver Settings” dialog box. 9. To modify the settings, make the changes and click the [OK] button.
