Getting Started Getting Started Turning off the computer Starting again from Hibernation mode To start up the computer from Hibernation mode, press the power button until the ON/OFF light glows green. The computer returns to the screen(s) you were using. If you put the computer in Hibernation mode by closing the display panel, you can start it again by opening the display panel. Using and configuring Sleep mode To turn off the computer using the Sleep command: 1 Click Start, and then click the arrow next to the Shut down button in the lower-right corner of the Start menu. The computer saves the status of all open programs and files to the memory, turns off the display, and enters into a low-power mode. The ON/OFF light blinks amber indicating the computer is in Sleep mode. Configuring Sleep mode options You can place the computer into Sleep mode by either pressing the power button or closing the display panel. You can also specify an amount of time after which the computer automatically goes into Sleep mode. 90 90 90d Turning off the computer To use any of these methods, you first need to enable them using the Power Options feature. 1 Click Start, Control Panel, System and Security, and then Power Options. The Power Options window appears. 2 Click Change plan settings under the power plan to be customized. The Edit Plan Settings window appears. Under Put the computer to sleep, select the desired amount of time in both the On battery and Plugged in categories. . To disable the computer from automatically entering Sleep mode, select Never. NOTE These options can be set separately for how they operate while the computer is running on battery power or while connected to AC power. . Closing the display panel After you have turned off the computer, close the display panel to keep dust and dirt out of the computer. For information about taking care of your computer’s battery, see “Taking care of your battery” on page 118. NOTE Please handle your computer carefully to avoid scratching or damaging the surface. Cleaning the computer Keep liquids, including cleaning fluid, out of the computer’s keyboard, speaker, and other openings. Never spray cleaner directly onto the computer and/or display. Never use harsh or caustic chemical products to clean the computer. To keep your computer clean, gently wipe the display panel and exterior case with a lightly dampened cloth. Getting Started Getting Started Caring for your computer Moving the computer Before moving your computer, even across the room, make sure all drive activity has ended (the internal storage drive and optical drive indicator lights stop glowing) and all external peripheral cables are disconnected.
