. Connect the computer to the optional high capacity battery. . Save your work and turn off the computer. If you do not manage to do any of these things before the main battery completely runs out of power, the computer automatically enters Hibernation mode and turns itself off. Hibernation mode keeps track of where you were so, when you turn on the power again, you can continue where you left off. The computer stores information on what you were doing until the main battery runs out of power. If you have Hibernation mode enabled (the default), the computer copies the details of your open programs and files to the hard disk before shutting down. Each alarm can be set to alert you when a specified percentage of remaining battery power has been reached. You can set how the warning occurs: sound an alarm, display a message, both, or none. You can also set the computer to enter Standby mode or Hibernation mode or to completely power down when the alarm goes off. To change the default alarm settings: 1 Click Start, then Control Panel, and then Performance and Maintenance. 2 Click the TOSHIBA Power Saver icon. 3 Click the Setup Action tab. 4 Configure the Alarm settings to suit your needs. Conserving battery power How long a fully charged battery pack lasts when you are using the computer depends on a number of factors, such as: . How the computer is configured. . How much you use the display panel instead of an external monitor. . How much you use the hard disk and other drives. . Whether you use any optional devices to which the battery supplies power. . Where you are working—since operating time decreases at low temperatures. Toshiba’s power-saving options greatly increase the length of time you can use the computer before having to recharge the main battery. Toshiba has combined these options into several preset power usage modes. Mobile Computing Mobile Computing Monitoring main battery power Setting a power usage mode 1 Click Start, Control Panel. The Control Panel window appears. 2 Click Performance and Maintenance. 3 Click the TOSHIBA Power Saver icon. The TOSHIBA Power Saver Properties window appears. Sample TOSHIBA Power Saver Properties window By changing the options that appear in the Power Saver Properties dialog box and clicking OK, you can reconfigure that function. You may choose a power-saving management strategy to best suit your computing needs. If you are running on batteries and the programs that you are using do not require a lot of system resources, you may experience longer work sessions by enabling the Normal setting. Any options that you change become the active settings when you exit the program. (You do not have to restart your system before they become active settings.)
