To access the Mouse utility: 1 Click Start, Control Panel, Mouse, or click the Mouse icon in the Optimize tab of Toshiba Assist. The Mouse Properties screen appears. Toshiba Utilities 164 Toshiba Hotkey Utility Toshiba Hotkey Utility The Toshiba Hotkey utility allows you to receive a confirmation message when you use the Hotkey combination for Standby [Fn+F3] and Hibernation [Fn+F4]. To activate the Hotkey utility: 1 Click Start, All Programs, Toshiba, Utilities, Hotkey utility. The Toshiba Hotkey window appears. Toshiba Utilities 165 Toshiba Hardware Setup Toshiba Hardware Setup Toshiba Hardware Setup is the Toshiba configuration management tool available through Windows®. To access it: . Click Start, Control Panel; Printers and Other Hardware; click the Toshiba Hardware Settings icon in the Optimize tab of Toshiba Assist. The Toshiba Hardware Setup screen appears. Sample Toshiba HWSetup window The tabs represent various dialog boxes. They are: 1 General—Allows you to view the current BIOS version or change certain settings back to their default values. 2 Device Config—Shows the device configuration options. 3 Display—Allows you to change various default settings for the built-in LCD display. 4 CPU (available on certain models)—Allows you to enable or disable CPU frequency switching modes. Toshiba Utilities 166 Toshiba Hardware Setup Dynamically Switchable—This mode is the default setting for your computer, and automatically changes the processing frequency and decreases voltage depending on the power source: . AC Power—If your computer is connected to the AC adapter, the CPU frequency mode is set to high for faster processing. . Battery Power—If your computer is running on battery power, the CPU frequency mode is set to low for slower processing. Switching the CPU to low allows you to conserve power and extend the operating time of your battery. Always High—Sets the CPU speed to high when using either the battery or the AC adapter. Always Low—Sets the CPU speed to low when using either the battery or the AC adapter. 5 Boot Priority—Allows you to change the sequence in which your computer searches the drives for the operating system. 6 Keyboard—Allows you to access the wake-on keyboard function. 7 USB—Allows you to enable or disable USB Legacy Emulation. 8 LAN—Allows you to set networking functions. By changing any of the options that appear in the dialog boxes and clicking Apply, you can reconfigure that function. Any options that you change will become default settings when you restart your system. Toshiba Utilities 167 Toshiba Zooming Utility Toshiba Zooming Utility This utility allows you to select which applications will work with the zoom in/out hot keys (see “Hot Keys” on page 231). Click All Programs to select every application. Click Custom to select any subset of the applications listed below: . Microsoft® Internet Explorer . Microsoft® Office . Windows Media® Player . Adobe® Reader® . Icons on the desktop To access the Zooming utility: 1 Click Start, All Programs, Toshiba, Utilities, Zooming Utility, or click the Zooming Utility icon in the Optimize tab of Toshiba Assist. The Toshiba Zooming Utility Properties screen appears. Sample Toshiba Zooming Utility Properties screen 2 Select the desired option(s). Toshiba Utilities 168 Toshiba SD™ Memory Card Format Utility 3 Click OK. The zoom in and zoom out hot keys will now work with the applications you selected. To zoom in, hold down the Fn key and press 2; to zoom out, hold down the Fn key and press 1. For more information about how to use the Toshiba Zooming utility, right click the icon in the taskbar and then click Help. Toshiba SD™ Memory Card Format Utility This utility is used to format SD cards used with the Bridge Media Adapter Slot. To format an SD memory card using this utility: 1 Click Start, All Programs, Toshiba, Utilities, SD Memory Card Format utility, or click the SD Memory Card icon in the Optimize tab of Toshiba Assist. The SD Memory Card Format screen appears. Sample SD Memory Card Format screen 2 Select the drive corresponding to the SD memory card. 3 Select the formatting option: . Quick Format . Full Format Toshiba Utilities 169 HDD Protection Utility 4 Click Start to begin formatting. The formatting progress is displayed in the horizontal bar in the window. 5 When formatting is completed, click Close to exit the utility. HDD Protection Utility The HDD Protection utility controls your computer’s hard disk drive (HDD) protection feature, which parks the HDD whenever motion is detected on the computer...
