If this is the case, pressing a ballpoint pen through the hole in the back of the set enables you to reset the display and to re-programme the preset stations. Sometimes, the preset stations have to be re-programmed after changing the batteries. RADIO RECEPTION ______ 9/10 kHz switch for AM (= MW) Important: You must set 9/10 KHz switch to correct position before use: • 10 kHz - for use in North and South America. • 9 kHz - for use in all other countries. • Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO. • Connect headphones to ii. The headphone lead will function as FM-aerial. • Select the wave band using FM*AM. The display shows 'FM' or 'AM'. • In case of FM, set FM ST/FM (mono) to the desired position. 4 Radio -When ’stereo’ appears on the display, you are listening to FM stereo programmes in stereo. The disturbance noise due to a weak FM stereo signal can be suppressed by setting FM ST./FM to FM (mono). The stereo indicator disappears from the display and you will hear the FM programme in mono. • Tune automatically, manually or by means of the PRESETS buttons. • Adjust the sound with VOLUME and DBB (bass). • The set is switched off when RADIO/TAPE is in position TAPE and no cassette player button is pressed. Automatic tuning • Keep TUNING J/J pressed until the frequency on display keeps changing; then release button. • Tuning stops when a strong radio signal has been found. • If the radio station found is not the desired one, simply repeat this operation. Manual tuning Manual tuning is useful when you already know the frequency of the transmitter (e.g. from your programme guide) • Keep TUNING UP J/ DOWN J pressed. • As soon as you approach the required radio frequency, stop tuning by briefly pressing the TUNING button. • Then press UP J or DOWN J briefly until the right frequency has been reached. In this way the frequency can be changed step-by-step. One step is 0.05 MHz (50 kHz) on FM or for North or South America 0.1 MHz (100 kHz). Radio PRESETS_ The PRESETS buttons allow you to store the frequencies of up to 10 radio stations in memory (AM or FM). How to preset a radio station • Select the wave band using FM»AM. • Using TUNING UP 5/ DOWN Jtune either automatically or manually to the radio station to be stored (as described above). •To store the radio frequency shown, press STORE. • Within 10 seconds, select the desired memory location using the PRESETS buttons. For the preset locations '6'...'10‘, first press '+5' and after that one of the buttons '1 '...'5'. The selected radio station is now stored in memory. A preset radio station is only erased from the memory by storing another in its place. Selecting PRESETS • Press the desired PRESETS button. For the preset locations '6'...‘10’, first press '+5' and after that one of the buttons '1 '...'5'. Erasing the memory • Move the 9/10 kHz switch to the other position and back again. The memory will now be erased and PRESETS stations will need to be reprogrammed. Cassette player PLAYING BACK CASSETTES • Set RADIO/TAPE to TAPE. • Connect headphones to 0. • Open the cassette holder and insert cassette with the open part facing the buttons. • Set N0RMAUMETAL-Cr02 selector to: - NORMAL for NORMAL (IEC I) cassettes - METAL-Cr02 for CHROME (IEC n) or METAL (IEC IV) cassettes • To start playback, press < ►. • During playback you can reverse the tape direction using -4 DIR ►. • Adjust the sound with VOLUME and DBB (bass). • Fast Winding: Press •« or»»-. • To stop, press ■ and the set is switched off. AUTO REVERSE •The tape direction will be automatically reversed whenever the player reaches the end of the tape. The cassette will play continuously unless you press ■ (or until the batteries are exhausted). 7 General information ACCESSORIES (included) > Stereo Headphones • Belt clip USE YOUR HEAD WHEN USING HEADPHONES Hearing safety: Do not play your headphones at a high volume. Hearing experts advise that continuous use at high volume can permanently damage hearing. Traffic safety: Do not use headphones while driving a vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and it is illegal in many countries. Even if your headphones are an open-air type designed to let you hear outside sounds, do not turn up the volume so high that you cannot hear what is going on around you. MAINTENANCE___ • Clean the magnetic head after every 50 hours of operation or, on average, once a month by playing through a cleaning cassette. • Do not expose the set and cassettes to rain, moisture, sand, or to excessive heat from e.g. heating equipment or in motor cars parked in the sun.
