At sub-zero temperatures the Automatic Control Thermostat may reset to boil and energize the element. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. Before first use, fill kettle with clean water to maximum capacity and boil. Discard water and repeat once. 2. Do not overfill as this may cause water to spill out when boiling or pouring. 3. Operate the kettle only on a dry and level surface with lid properly secured in place. 4. Do not plug in dry. Do not pour water out while plugged in as damage to kettle may occur. This kettle has a safety thermostat designed to disconnect the heating element if the kettle is accidentally plugged in empty or allowed to boil dry. When this occurs, allow to cool for a few minutes and then add some cold water to bring the temperature back to normal. The kettle is then ready for use again. 5. To avoid shock and operating hazards refer to an authorized service depot to repair a defective or damaged kettle. 6. To avoid possible steam damage, turn spout opening away from walls or cabinets when operating kettle. Kettle should always be unplugged when filling or adding water. 2. Fill the kettle with water to the desired level. Do not overfill. If kettle is overfilled there is a risk of spillage or spitting. The kettle lid may be removed for filling if desired. The water level indicator will assist you to measure correct amount. (See Figure 1). 3. Place kettle on a dry, flat surface. Ensure lid is in place securely. 4. Never operate the kettle with less than one cup (250 mL) of water or without lid securely in place. 5. For auto-off model JKA300 only, connect cordset into socket on the kettle just below the handle (See Figure 2). This is not required on the JK200 and JKA350 models as cord set is permanently fixed to kettle. 6. Insert plug into a grounded 120V 60Hz power outlet. CAUTION: Do not place kettle on a heated stove, or on a hot electric or gas burner. For auto-off models JKA300 and JKA350 depress the on/off switch button on top of the kettle to the ON (-) position. (see Figure 3). No switching is required for JK200. 7. When the water has boiled, the kettle will switch off automatically (auto-off JKA300 and JKA350 models only). After a short delay the water can be brought back to a boil by resetting the switch back to the ON (-) position. The JK200 model kettle must be unplugged manually upon reaching a full boil. DO NOT ALLOW THE KETTLE TO BOIL DRY (See special instructions - clause 4 if this occurs). 8. The auto-off JKA300 and JKA350 model kettles may be switched off at any time by either pushing the switch on top of kettle to the “OFF” position or by manually unplugging unit at electrical wall outlet at the power outlet.
