Should you be determined to make a repair yourself, remember that the green colored wire is the “grounding” wire. Never connect this green wire to a “live” terminal. If you replace the plug on the power cord, be sure to connect the green wire only to the grounding (longest) prong on a 3-prong plug. EXTENSION CORD When using the tool at a considerable distance from power source, an extension cord of adequate size must be used to prevent loss of power and over-heating. Use the table below to determine the power wire size required in an extension cord! Use only three wire extension cords which have three-prong grounding-type plugs and three-pole receptacles which accept the tool's plug. Replace or repair damaged cords. Fig. E OPERATION The Super Hammer may be used for demolition, for drilling holes in concrete and other applications requiring a hammering ■action—see Hammer Tools on next page, The Side Handle may be mounted on either side of the Hammer for greater convenience in floor work and should be tightened firmly with a wrench to prevent loosening when in operation. For horizontal hammering support the tool with one hand under the barrel, (CAUTION: Wear gloves. Barrel becomes hot during use.) The motor is operated by a trigger switch which, when depressed, turns the tool ON, releasing the trigger turns the tool OFF. Note Carefully the Following: 1. In some cases when going from on idling action to a hammering action, it may be necessary to momentarily ' release the trigger to resume beating. 2, The output of this Hammer has been increased appreciably over previous types, With this increased power the following points are important: A. When hammering, push the Hammer forward or downward with just enough pressure to keep the shoulder of the bit against the Hammer nose piece (Fig, F), Excessive pressure will actually decrease work output OPERATION (Continued) B. When drilling holes with star drill, swing the accessory turning handle in an arc of between 100° and 180° from 40 to 60 times per minute. This will prevent binding and remove the cuttings. C. For best demolition performance always place the end of the bit close to an edge of the work, breaking the work away piece by piece. Trying to break away too large a chunk may cause the bit to get stuck in the work and may also LUBRICATION Your Hammer has been designed to operate for an extended period of time before requiring relubrication. We recommend that after every 75 hours of operation the grease reservoir on the top of the gear case be checked. See Fig, H for disassembly. Remove the felt wiper and fill the cavity with B&D Gear Grease (See Hammer Supplies). The felt wiper should be soaked in B&D Special Hammer Lubricating Oil. Fïg, H During periods of heavy overhead use, a few squirts of B&D Hammer Oil (See Supplies) should be applied through the nose piece (Fig. J). Fïg. J In approximately 3 months (depending upon use) your Hammer should be sent to your local B&D Service Center for a complete cleaning and relubrication. The Hammer will be returned to you completely cleaned and adjusted with new parts installed where necessary, 3 STAR DRILLS SELF-DRILLING ANCHORS For iy4" to 21/2" holes- Cat. Point Overall Quan.
