There is a textured area underneath the handset that is revealed when the handset is lifted. This is the speaker used during hands-free operations. Along the upper side of the unit to the right of the handset is a smooth, slightly raised surface. This is the LCD (liquid crystal display). Just to the upper-right edge of the display is the Message/Ringer lamp. Below the LCD and to the right of the handset are two rows of three round buttons. In the upper row, the buttons are as follows from left to right: Intercom, Auto Answer, and Auto Dial. The Auto Answer button also serves as the Mute button, and the Auto Dial button also serves as the Store button. In the lower row, the buttons are as follows from left to right: Message, Redial, and Transfer. Below the two rows of operation buttons is the telephone keypad. It is laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement, with a “raised dot” on the 5 button. The buttons are arranged in 4 rows. From top to bottom, they are: row 1 from the left: 1, 2, 3. row 2 from the left: 4, 5, 6. row 3 from the left: 7, 8, 9. row 4 from the left: star, 0, pound. Below the keypad, at the bottom of the unit are three more buttons. From left to right, they are: Flash/Recall, Hold, and Speakerphone. The Speakerphone button is also called the SP-Phone button. The Speakerphone button is used for hands-free operations, and has a “raised dot” on it. Directly to the right of the Speaker phone button is the Navigator Key. The Navigator Key is a round, 4-way rocker button. It is used to adjust the volume, the display contrast, and to select menu items. To the lower-right of the Navigator Key is a notch. This is the microphone, which is used during hands-free conversations. Above the Navigator Key is a column of 8 buttons on the right. These buttons are Flexible buttons, which are used to seize a CO line or perform a feature that has been assigned to the button. To the left of the buttons is a smooth plastic strip, where a description of these buttons can be written. Above the plastic strip is the Program button. Along the left edge of the phone, towards the bottom of the unit is a slightly depressed area. This is the headset jack. Location of controls for the KX-DT321, Digital Proprietary Telephone.
