There is a textured area underneath the handset that is revealed when the handset is lifted. This is the speaker used during hands-free operations. At the upper side of the unit to the right of the handset is a protruding panel. The central part of the panel is a smooth surface. This is the LCD (liquid crystal display). Directly below the LCD is a row of four buttons. These are soft buttons used to select items displayed in the bottom portion of the LCD. On the upper-right edge of the panel is the Message/Ringer lamp. The angle of the panel can be adjusted. Below the LCD and to the right of the handset are two rows of three round operation buttons. In the upper row, the buttons are as follows from left to right: Conference, Call Forwarding/Do Not Disturb, and Pause. In the lower row, the buttons are as follows from left to right: Intercom, Auto Answer, and Auto Dial. The Auto Answer button also serves as the Mute button, and the Auto Dial button also serves as the Store button. Below the two rows of operation buttons is the telephone keypad. It is laid out in the conventional telephone arrangement, with a “raised dot” on the 5 button. The buttons are arranged in 4 rows. It is used to select items when using the Navigator Key. Directly to the upper right of the Navigator key is a small round button. This is the Cancel key, and is used to cancel operations when using the Navigator Key. To the lower-right of the Navigator Key is a notch. This is the microphone, which is used during hands-free conversations. Above the Navigator Key are two columns of 12 buttons each. These buttons are Flexible buttons, which are used to seize a CO line or perform a feature that has been assigned to the button. Next to the seventh button from the bottom in each column is a “raised dot”. Between the two columns of buttons is a smooth plastic strip, where a description of these buttons can be written. Along the left edge of the phone, towards the bottom of the unit is a slightly depressed area. This is the headset jack.
