1 Insert Memory Stick media in your CLIE handheld. The contents of the Memory Stick media are displayed. 2 Tap the Home icon. 3 Rotate the Jog Dial navigator to select MS Gate and press the Jog Dial navigator. Or tap the MS Gate icon on the Application Launcher screen. The MS Gate application starts. The data in your CLIE handheld is listed. 4 Press the Jog Dial navigator to select MS. You can also tap the arrow V in the upper right corner to select MS from the drop-down list. You can also select MS by tapping . The data in the “/PALM/PROGRAMS/MSFILES“ folder of Memory Stick media is listed. 5 Tap to select the data that you want to delete. 6 Tap DELETE. The Delete File dialog box is displayed. To delete all data at once Tap Select All in step 5. To cancel the selection • To cancel all the selections, tap Clear All. • To clear only specific items, tap one selected item at a time. To change the current folder Tap or to select the folder that you want to delete. The folder display changes and you can specify the current folder. You can only select a folder under the “PALM/PROGRAMS” or “PALM/ Launcher” folder. The other folders cannot be selected. Note You cannot delete a read-only file. Chapter4 Communicating using your Sony CLIE Handheld Exchanging data via Memory Stick® media Using the MS Gate menus MS Gate menu commands allow you to exchange data between your CLIE handheld and Memory Stick media. Tools menus The menu items differ depending on the screen being displayed. Select All Selects all the data displayed in the selected tab. Clear All Cancels the selection of the data. Move Moves the selected data to your CLIE handheld or Memory Stick media. The Move File screen appears. Copy Copies the selected data to your CLIE handheld or Memory Stick media. The Copy File screen appears. Delete Deletes the selected data from your CLIE handheld or Memory Stick media. The Delete File screen appears. Rename Changes the name of the selected file or folder of Memory Stick media. Create Folder Creates a folder in the current folder. Create Default Folder Creates the default folder (“/PALM/PROGRAMS/ MSFILES“) in Memory Stick media. Change to Default Folder Changes the current folder to default folder. Options menus Format Formats Memory Stick media inserted in your CLIE handheld. Media Information Displays the memory information of Memory Stick media. About MS Gate Shows the version information for MS Gate. 155 Chapter4 Communicating using your Sony CLIE Handheld Exchanging data via Memory Stick® media Installing applications to/from Memory Stick media without using the MS Gate application You can copy and install applications to/from a Memory Stick media from/ to your CLIE handheld from the Application Launcher screen. However, observe the following as malfunction may occur depending on the application. • You can only copy application files (files with extensions such as .prc, .pdb) using the following procedure. Related files will not be copied together at the same time. • Data stored in the Memory Stick media (such as image files) will not be displayed. • Only data in the /Palm/Launcher folder is displayed. 1 Insert the Memory Stick media into the Memory Stick slot of your CLIE handheld. The contents of Memory Stick media are displayed. 2 Tap the Menu icon on your CLIE handheld. 3 Tap Copy from the drop-down list. The Copy dialog box appears. 4 Tap the arrow V next to Copy To, and select Handheld or Card. 5 Tap the arrow V next to From, and select Card or Handheld. 6 Tap the application you want to install. 7 Tap Copy. The selected application is installed on your CLIE handheld or Memory Stick media. Tip You do not have to install add-on applications on your CLIE handheld in order to use them. If you want to save the CLIE handheld’s memory space, you can simply select the card category in the Application Launcher screen and tap on the application icon. (Note, that such applications can only be used while the Memory Stick media containing the application is inserted in the CLIE handheld). Image files and movie files that come with the application cannot be started (played).
