4 Known Problems and Workarounds
Problem
If you use an HP X.25 2-port PCI card (product number J3525A) in some of the Integrity servers,
the system may generate a Machine Check Abort (MCA).
This problem may occur if the setup includes the following:
•
The X.25 card is installed in one of the following HP Integrity servers:
◦
Superdome sx2000
◦
HP Integrity server rx7640
◦
HP Integrity server rx8640
•
Any version of the HP X.25 2-port PCI card (J3525A)
•
Any RAD SPS series switch (SPS-12, SPS-3S, or SPS-6) For more information, see the
“Multiprotocol Packet Switches” section of the RAD Web site at: http://www.rad.com/Article/
0,6583,25075,00.html
•
The interface used is either RS-530 or RS-449
This problem occurs because of a design defect in the RAD switch implementation of the RS-530
and RS-449 interfaces loop-around test pins. This defect causes excess inflow of current into the
X.25 card in some situations. This problem was observed only in the case of an X.25 card installed
either in the sx2000, rx7640 or rx8640 systems, and it occurred because of the system’s lower
short circuit current limit and threshold voltage.
Workaround
HP recommends inserting a special DB25 male/female mini-adapter, with pins 18 and 21
disconnected, between the X.25 switch and the cable connector, as shown in Figure 1-1.
