Place a spool of thread on the spool pin with the thread coming off the spool as shown. Attach the large spool holder _, and press it firmly J against the spool of thread. The small spool holder _ is used with narrow or small spools of thread. J • Additional spool pin Additional spool pin Spool pin hole Spool pin felt Spool stand The additional spool pin _ is for bobbin winding, without unthreading the machine, and for twin needle sewing. insert the additional spool pin _ into spool stand _ and the hole _. Place the felt _ and a spool on the pin as illustrated. ® J 13 Bobbin Winding S ,,.mditil Note: Set the speed control lever at its fastest position for bobbin winding. _) Upper thread guide Bobbin Bobbin winder spindle Guide the thread around the upper thread guide _). Insert the thread through the hole on the bobbin _, threading from the inside to the outside. Put the bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle _. Push the bobbin winder spindle _ to the right. The visual touch screen shows "Bobbin Winding". With the free end of the thread held in your hand, depress the foot control. Stop the machine when the bobbin has made a few turns, and cut the thread close to the hole on the bobbin. Depress the foot control again. When the bobbin is fully wound, it wilt stop automatically. Return the bobbin to its original position by moving the spindle to the left, and cut the thread as shown. J 14 • Inserting the bobbin S End of thread Notch Notch Threading diagram Place a bobbin in the bobbin holder with the thread running off counterclockwise. Guide the thread into the notch _ on the front side of the bobbin holder. Draw the thread to the left, sliding it between the tension % spring blades. \ Continue to draw the thread lightly until the thread slips into notch _. Pull out about 6" (15.0 cm) of thread. Attach the hook cover plate. Check the threading by % referring to the diagram _ shown on the hook cover plate. J 15 Threading the Machine S • Threading the machine * Raise the thread take-up lever to its highest position by turning the handwheel counterclockwise. * Raise the presser foot lifter. * Place a spool on the spool pin, with the thread coming off from the bottom toward the front of the sewing machine. Draw the end of the thread around the upper thread guide. While holding the thread near the spool, draw the end of the thread down around the check spring holder. Firmly draw the thread up to the take-up lever, and down into the take-up lever eye. Pass the thread behind the lower thread guide on the left. Slip the thread in the needle bar thread guide on the left. Thread the needle from front to back, or use the built-in needle threader. % • Built-in needle threader _Knob @Hook f Raise the needle to its highest position. Push down the needle threader knob _ as far as it wilt go. The hook comes out through the needle eye from behind. Paying close attention to the needle point, draw the thread around the guide and under the hook _. Release the knob slowly while holding the thread end with your hand. A loop of the thread is pulled up through the needle eye. Note: The needle threader can be used with a #11 to #16 needle, or a #11 Blue needle. Thread size 50 to 100 is recommended. % f J J J 16 S • Drawing up bobbin thread (_ Up/down needle button Raise the presser foot. Hold the needle thread lightly with your left hand. Press the up/down needle button _ twice to bring the % bobbin thread up. Draw up the needle thread to bring up a loop of the bobbin thread. Pull both threads 4" to 6" (10.0 to 15.0 cm) under and % behind the presser foot. \ J 17 SECTION II1. CONVENTIONAL SEWING Visual Touch Screen The "Kenmore Elite" display appears on the visual touch screen for a few seconds when turning the machine on, then it shows the initial screen as illustrated.
