If you useMicrosoft Windows Explorer to transfer a file, save thefile to a compatible memory card (local disk). indicates a .sis or .sisx application, a Java application, that the application is not fully installed, and that the application is installed on the memory card. . If you install a file that contains an update or repairto an existing application, you can only restore theoriginal application if you have the originalinstallation file or a full backup copy of the removedsoftware package. To restore the originalapplication, remove the application, and install theapplication again from the original installation fileor the backup copy. The .jar file is required for installing Javaapplications. If it is missing, the device may ask youto download it. If there is no access point definedfor the application, you are asked to select one. When you are downloading the . jar file, you mayneed to enter a user name and password to accessthe server. You obtain these from the supplier ormanufacturer of the application. Important: Only install and use applications and other software from trusted sources, such as applications that are Symbian Signed or have passed the Java VerifiedTM testing. Before installation, note the following: . To view the application type, version number, andthe supplier or manufacturer of the application, select Options > View details. To display the security certificate details of theapplication, in Details: , scroll to Certificates: , andselect View details. See "Certificate 138 management" , p. 146. To install an application or software, do the following: 1. To locate an installation file, press , and select Applications > App. mgr. . Alternatively, searchthe device memory or a compatible memory card(if inserted) in File manager, or open a message inMessaging > Inbox that contains an installation file. 2. In Application manager, select Options > Install. In other applications, scroll to the installation file, and select it to start the installation. During installation, the device shows informationabout the progress of the installation. If you installan application without signature certification, the device displays a warning. Continue installation only if you are sure of theorigin and contents of the application. To start an installed application, locate it in the menu, and select it. If the application does not have a defaultfolder defined, it is installed in the Applications folder in the main menu. Scroll to a software package, and select Options > Remove. Select Yes to confirm. If you remove software, you can only reinstall it if youhave the original software package or a full backup ofthe removed software package. If you remove asoftware package, you may no longer be able to opendocuments created with that software. To see which software packages are installed orremoved and when, select Options > View log. Important: Your device can only support oneantivirus application. Having more than oneapplication with antivirus functionality could affectperformance and operation or cause the device to stopfunctioning. After you install applications to a compatible memorycard, installation files (.sis) remain in the devicememory. The files may use large amounts of memoryand prevent you from storing other files. To maintainsufficient memory, use Nokia PC Suite to back upinstallation files to a compatible PC, then use the filemanager to remove the installation files from thedevice memory. If the .sis file is a message attachment, delete the message from the Messaging inbox. Remove applications Press , and select Applications > App. mgr. . If another software package depends on the softwarepackage that you removed, the other software packagemay stop working. Refer to the documentation of theinstalled software package for details.
