1. For AS800 Series Models Only: Grasp the plug and pull it out to open the water fill hole. Be careful not to pull too hard as the plug is attached to the inside of the hole. After filling, be sure to push the plug securely back into the water fill hole. For all models: Using a clean measuring cup or water fill cup provided (model AS870), tilt the iron and pour water into the water fill hole until the level reaches the MAX mark on the water window. Refill as needed. 2. Ordinary tap water can be used for ironing. Do not use water processed through a home softening system. In extremely hard water areas, consider using distilled or demineralized water, however, use tap water the first time you use the iron and once a month thereafter to maintain steam performance. 3. Plug in the iron. (Model AS870: The auto-off reset button light on the handle will glow.) For Steam Ironing: Move the self-cleaning/dry/steam selector to STEAM ( ). Turn the temperature dial to the appropriate setting (between 4 and 6) for your fabric. Use the fabric guide on the heel rest (A) to help you select the setting for the fabric to be ironed (check the garment label for fabric type and manufacturer’s recommended setting). For optimum performance, let the iron stand until the indicator light goes out (approximately 60 to 90 seconds) before beginning to iron. When finished ironing, turn the temperature dial to lowest heat setting, move the selector to DRY ( ) or to ( ) on model AS870 and unplug the iron. For Dry Ironing: Move the self-clean/dry/steam selector to DRY ( ) or to ( ) on model AS870. Use the fabric guide on the heel rest to help select the setting (A) then turn the temperature dial to the appropriate setting for your fabric. 4. Note that the on indicator light will go out when the iron reaches the temperature for the setting you’ve selected (B). This light will cycle on and off as you iron indicating it is maintaining the temperature. 5. When finished ironing, turn the temperature dial to 0 (Off) and the on indicator light will go out. Unplug the iron and stand it on its heel rest. For Model AS870 with one-hour Auto-off: This iron will shut off automatically and the auto-off reset button light will go out after 1 hour. If you’d like to END your ironing session before an hour, turn the temperature dial to 0 and unplug the iron. If the iron goes off and you want to EXTEND your ironing session, press the auto-off reset button and the iron will come back on. When finished ironing, turn the temperature dial to 0 and the indicator light will go out. Unplug the iron and stand it on its heel rest. SURGE OF STEAM Be sure there is water in the reservoir. The self-cleaning/dry/ steam selector may be on STEAM ( ) or DRY ( ), or ( ) on model AS870. Turn the temperature dial to at least setting 4. To remove tough wrinkles, pump the SURGE button ( ) a few times for a powerful blast of concentrated steam. For best performance, use surge of steam at 5-second intervals. When using vertical surge of steam, hang the garment on a clothes hanger — curtains/drapes can be steamed once they’re hung. Hold the iron close to but not touching the fabric. Pull the fabric tight with your free hand and pump the SURGE button ( ) as you pass the iron over the wrinkled fabric (C). SPRAY Check to see if the iron is filled with water. Push the SPRAY button ( ) for a fine mist of water. If spray is weak, pump the SPRAY button several times. SPRAY can be used at any setting. Care and Cleaning This product contains no user serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel. 1. It is not necessary to empty the water after each use if the iron is used frequently. However, when you want to empty the water, turn the temperature dial to 0 (Off) so the light goes out. Unplug the iron and allow it to cool. 2. Empty the water (For 800 models, grasp the plug and pull it out to open the water fill hole) by holding the iron over a sink with the tip pointing down. Water will empty out the water fill hole. If all the water hasn’t drained, repeat the emptying process. CLEANING THE OUTSIDE SURFACES 1. Make sure iron is unplugged and has cooled completely. Wipe the soleplate and outer surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with water add mild household detergent. Never use abrasives, heavy-duty cleansers, vinegar or scouring pads that may scratch or discolor the iron. 2. After cleaning, steam iron over an old cloth to remove any residue from the steam vents. THE SELF-CLEANING SYSTEM 1. About once a month use the self-cleaning system to flush out minerals and lint. If lint is allowed to accumulate in the vents, it can scorch and cause brown spotting. 2. Fill the iron only about 1/3 full so that the water level is well below the MAX line. Plug the iron in, turn the temperature dial to 6, and stand the iron on its heel rest. Allow to heat about 3 minutes. The on indicator light will go through a complete cycle of coming on and going off. 3. Unplug the iron and take it to a s...
