Connect the white and red plugs (left/right audio) and S VIDEO plug (S VIDEO channel) of an A/V connecting cable. In this case, the yellow (standard video) plug connection is not necessary. S VIDEO connection only will not output audio. C i.LINK cable (optional) Use an i.LINK cable to connect your camcorder to another device equipped with an i.LINK jack. The video and audio signals are transmitted digitally, producing high quality pictures and sound. Note that you cannot output picture and sound separately. • When you are connecting your camcorder to a monaural device, connect the yellow plug of the A/V connecting cable to the video jack, and the red (right channel) or the white (left channel) plug to the audio jack on the VCR/TV. • When you connect a device via an A/V connecting cable, set [DISP OUT] to [LCD] (the default setting) (p. 44). Continued , 45 Dubbing to VCR/DVD device, etc. (Continued) 1 Prepare your camcorder for playback. Insert the recorded cassette. Slide the POWER switch repeatedly to turn on the PLAY/EDIT lamp. 2 Prepare your VCR/DVD device for recording. When dubbing to the VCR, insert a cassette for recording. When dubbing to the DVD recorder, insert a DVD for recording. If your recording device has an input selector, set it to the appropriate input (such as video input1, video input2). 3 Connect your VCR/DVD device to your camcorder as a recording device. Connect your camcorder to the input jacks of a VCR or a DVD device. 4 Start playback on the camcorder, and recording on the VCR/DVD device. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with your recording device for details. 5 When dubbing is complete, stop your camcorder and the VCR/DVD device. • To record the date/time and camera settings data when connected by the A/V connecting cable, display them on the screen (p. 35, 44). • The following cannot be output via the DV Interface (i.LINK): – Indicators – Pictures edited using [P EFFECT] (p. 38) • When connected using an i.LINK cable, the recorded picture becomes rough when a picture is paused on your camcorder while recording to a VCR. • When connected using an i.LINK cable, data code (date/time/camera settings data) may not be displayed or recorded depending on the device or application. Recording pictures from a TV or VCR/DVD device, etc. (DCR-HC28E) You can record pictures or TV programs from a TV or VCR/DVD device, etc., on a tape. Be sure to insert a cassette for recording in your camcorder beforehand. You can connect your camcorder to a TV, VCR/DVD or an i.LINK-compatible device using the i.LINK cable. Connect your camcorder to the wall socket using the supplied AC Adaptor for this operation (p. 9). Refer also to the instruction manuals supplied with the devices to be connected. • You cannot record pictures on your camcorder from a TV or VCR/DVD device that does not have an i.LINK jack. • You cannot input picture and sound separately. • Your camcorder can only record from a PAL source. For example, French system video/broadcasts (SECAM) will not be recorded correctly. See page 61 for details on TV color systems. Dubbing/ Editing DV : Signal flow To i.LINK jack To DV Interface (i.LINK) TVs or VCR/ DVD devices i.LINK cable (optional) 1 Connect your TV or VCR/DVD device to your camcorder with an i.LINK cable. • The indicator appears when you connect your camcorder and other devices via an i.LINK cable. (This indicator may also appear on the connected device.) 2 If you are recording from a VCR/ DVD device, insert a cassette or a DVD. 3 Slide the POWER switch repeatedly to turn on the PLAY/ EDIT lamp. 4 Set your camcorder to recording pause mode. Continued , 47 Recording pictures from a TV or VCR/DVD device, etc. (Continued) 5 When recording pictures from a VCR/DVD device: Start playing the cassette or the disc on the VCR/DVD device. When recording pictures from a TV: Select a TV program. The picture played on the connected device appears on the LCD screen of your camcorder. 6 Touch [REC START] at the point you want to start recording. 7 Stop recording. Touch (Stop) or [REC PAUSE]. 8 Touch [ RET.] t . Dubbing sound to a recorded tape You can add sound to a tape already recorded in the 12-bit mode (p. 42) without erasing the original sound. Internal stereo microphone You can record audio by using the internal stereo microphone. • You cannot record additional audio: – When the tape has been recorded in the 16-bit mode (p. 42). – When the tape has been recorded in the LP mode. – When your camcorder is connected via an i.LINK cable. – When the tape has been recorded in 4CH MIC mode. – On blank sections of the tape. – When the tape has been recorded in a TV color system other than that of your camcorder (p. 61). – When the write-protect tab of the cassette is set to SAVE (p. 62). – On sections recorded in HDV format. • When you add sound, the picture will not be output from the A/V OUT jack.
