Preparations .. 27 IMPORTANT • If you use an SDXC memory card with a computer OS that is not SDXC- compatible, you may be prompted to format the memory card. In such case, cancel the operation to prevent data loss. • After repeatedly recording, deleting and editing scenes (fragmented memory), it will take longer to write data on the memory and recording may stop. Save your recordings and initialize the memory. 28 • Preparations Top view Lens Top view Lens Inserting and Removing a Memory Card If you plan on using a memory card, turn off the camcorder before performing the initial setup and then insert the memory card. After performing the initial setup, initialize the memory card (A 33). 1 Open the LCD panel. If this is your first time to turn on the camcorder, the language selection screen of the initial setup screens will appear. 2 Press to turn off the camcorder. Make sure the POWER/CHG indicator is off. 3 Open the memory card slot cover. 4 Insert the memory card at a slight angle, with the label facing toward the lens, all the way into the memory card slot until it clicks. The memory card slot is at a slight angle toward the lens so . be careful not to damage the memory card when inserting it. Memory card 5 Close the memory card slot cover. Do not force the cover closed if the memory card is not correctly inserted. To remove the memory card Push the memory card once to release it. When the memory card springs out, pull it all the way out. Preparations .. 29 IMPORTANT • Memory cards have front and back sides that are not interchangeable. Inserting a memory card facing the wrong direction can cause a malfunction of the camcorder. Be sure to insert the memory card as described in step 4. 30 • Preparations First Time Settings Basic Setup The first time you turn on the camcorder, you will be guided by the camcorder’s easy-to-follow setup screens to configure the camcorder’s initial settings. You will set the date and time, movie format, and other basic functions. For details on how to use the touch screen, refer to Using the Touch Screen (A 35). 1 Touch the language used for onscreen displays and then touch [.]. • You may need to scroll down to find your language. • After you select a language, the [Date Format] screen will appear. 2 Touch [Y.M.D], [M.D,Y] or [D.M.Y] to select the date format you prefer and then touch [.]. After you select the date format, the [Date/Time] screen will appear with the first field selected. 3 Touch a field you want to change (year, month, day, hours or minutes). 4Touch [I] or [I] to change the field as necessary. 5 Set the correct date and time by changing all the fields in the same way • Touch [24H] to use 24-hour clock or leave it unselected to use 12-hour clock (AM/PM). 6 Touch [OK] and then touch [.]. • After you select the date and time, the [Movie Format] screen will appear. 7Touch [·] or [.] to select the movie format and then touch [.]. • 6/4 After you select the movie format, the [v Rec Media for Movies] screen will appear, where you can select the memory to which you want to record movies. Touch [.] after selecting a language Preparations .. 31 • 7Skip to step 10. 8Touch [&] (built-in memory) or [ ] (memory card) and then touch [.]. • When selecting the memory, you can check the available recording time based on the video quality setting. • After you select the memory to which you want to record movies, the [{ Rec Media for Photos] screen will appear. 9Touch [&] (built-in memory) or [ ] (memory card) and then touch [.]. When selecting the memory, you can check the number of photos that can be recorded, based on a photo size of 1920x1080. 10 Touch [OK]. Setup is complete. The settings you selected will appear briefly and then the camcorder will be ready to record. NOTES • Some control buttons, such as [ZOOM] or [PHOTO], will appear in English regardless of the language selected. • You can change the language later on with the > q > [Language ] setting. You can adjust the date and time later on with the > q > [Date/Time] setting. You can change the movie format later on with the > [Movie Format] setting. 6/4 You can select the memory for movies and photos later on with the > [Recording Media] > [v Rec Media for Movies] and [{ Rec Media for Photos] settings. • When you do not use the camcorder for about 3 months, the built-in rechargeable lithium battery may discharge completely and the date and time setting may be lost. In such case, recharge the built-in lithium battery (A 178). The next time you turn on the camcorder, you will have to configure the initial settings again. 32 • Preparations Changing the Time Zone Change the time zone to match your location. The default setting is New York. In addition, the camcorder is able to retain the date and time of another location. This is convenient when you travel so that you can set the camcorder to match the time of your home location or that of your destination.
