This means that you can access any Music Style just by connecting the MSL-15 to a compatible device. For a detailed explanation of how to play the MSL-15's Music Styles, read the owner's manual of the device you will be using with the MSL-15. ^ Note: To use the MSL-15, you wilt need a BOSS AC adaptor (PSA-series:sold separately). ^ ©1990 by Roland Corporation All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced in any form without the permission of Roland Corporation. ■ Compatible Models The MSL-15 can be used with the following models: Intelligent Synthesizer E-5/E-20/E-30 Intelligent Arranger PRO-E Real Time Arranger RA-50 Intelligent Arranger CA-30 Digital Keyboard KR-100/KR-500/KR-3000 ■ Panel Description l/F cable ■ Connection Before you make any connections, be sure that all the units are switched off. (1) Connect the AC adaptor (BOSS PSA-series:sold separately) to the DC IN jack. (2) Connect the supplied l/F cable to the l/F connector on the MSL-15. Insert the l/F cable firmly into the l/F connector on the MSL-15. By doing so, the cable locks on either side of the connector will be engaged. * To disconnect the l/F cable, place a thumb on each cable lock and gently push the ends of each lock toward their respective ends of the unit. ® Insert the l/F card (arrow side up) firmly to the Music Style Card slot of the other device. Note: Please handle the l/F card and l/F cable gently. Do not touch the terminal of the l/F card with your fingers or allow it become wet or dirty. Damage to the unit may otherwise result. ■ Installation When using the E-5, E-20, E-30 or KR-100: Lean the MSL-15 on the Music rest. When using the KR-500 or KR-3000: Remove the Music rest and place the MSL-15 on the top panel of your keyboard. ■ How to select a Music Style on the MSL-15 0 Switch on the device connected to the MSL-15, and then turn on the MSL-15. (2) Press any of the MSL-15's Card Number buttons (01-14) that corresponds to the Music Style you want. The corresponding LED will be light. When the MSL-15 is switched on, 01 (TN-SC1-01:Country) will be automatically selected. [3) Press CARD on the connected device. cb dh Press any of the Style (Rhythm) Number buttons (1-8) on the connected device you like. It will indicate the number, name and preset tempo of the selected Music Style (Rhythm) in the display. * The E-5 is not provided with a display, and cannot indicate this information. The Style performance should be set exactly the same as when it is played with a Music Style Card. * When you wish to continue and select other Music Styles in the MSL-15, be sure to press CARD after the relevant Card Number button has been pressed. 5 Example: Selecting "Lambada" 0 The "Lambada" Music Style is stored in Dance 2 (TN-SC1-12). Press Card Number button 12. v2j Press CARD on the connected device. (3) "Lambada" is the third Music Style in Dance 2. Press Number button 3 (or 7) on the connected device, and the Lambada Music Style will appear in the display. ■ How to use a Music Style Card You can also use an optional Music Style Card with the MSL-15. 0 Insert your Music Style Card into the EXT Music Style Card slot on the MSL-15. When this occurs, the situation can be corrected by following the directions under "what to do": Possible Cause 1: The l/F Card is not correctly connected. What to do : Connect the l/F card correctly and securely, then repeat the procedure. Possible Cause 2: The MSL-15 is switched off. What to do : Switch the MSL-15 on and repeat the procedure. Possible Cause 3: You have pressed EXT CARD without any card in the EXT What to do Music Style Card slot. Insert a card and repeat the procedure. ILLEGAL CORD ! ! Possible Cause 1 : The l/F Card is not correctly connected. What to do : Connect the l/F Card correctly and repeat the procedure. Possible Cause 2: When you are using the E-20, sometimes the data can not be read correctly (this very rarely occurs, however). What to do : Switch off the E-20 (while leaving the connections untouched), then switch it on again. Possible Cause 3: You have inserted a card which is not a Music Style Card into the EXT Music Style Card slot and then pressed EXT CARD What to do : Remove the card.
