Software disk and it will in turn select all the necessary patches. In the course of the installation, it
will also remove all earlier versions of USB-00. Then install PHKL_39269.
Special Installation Instructions for Users of rx8640 and Integrity Superdome
If you are installing USB-00 version D or PHKL_39269 on an rx86X40 or Integrity Superdome, the
USB drivers may not be built into the kernel unless an A6869/Obsidian or AD307A was present
when the system was initially installed. When you later wish to take advantage of the USB
capabilities of these cards, you must ensure that the USB drivers get built into the kernel. To do
that,
1) Install PHKL_39269 or USB-00 version D
2) Execute the command “kcmodule hcd”. If the result indicates that the current state is static,
then you do not need to do anything else. The drivers are already built in. Otherwise
proceed to step (3).
3) Execute the command “kcmodule hcd=static”. This will build the USB drivers into the kernel.
4) Reboot the system (installing the card(s) if not already installed)
New ioscan Presentation
The USB related output of ioscan as well as the hardware paths and their meaning are different
once these patches are installed and the new USB functionality is enabled by the removal of older
versions of USB-00. The new details are described in a companion white paper entitled
“Understanding HP-UX 11i v2 and v3 USB ioscan” under the USB-00 in the HP-UX 11iv2 section of
the Operating Environments area of http://docs.hp.com.
General Usage Notes
1) When a new USB mass storage device is added at runtime, it will be recognized by the
system automatically and will show up in ioscan. To create the device special file, you must
run insf. insf will see that there is new mass storage hardware and create the necessary
device special files.
2) Because of the dynamic nature of the USB bus and the devices on it, it is possible that the
association of device special files to actual USB devices may change in certain
circumstances.
a.
When you disconnect a USB device at runtime and reconnect it to a different port,
the device special file will be different (and in fact may need to be created using insf
as described above).
b.
When you put a new USB device into a port previously occupied by another device,
the new device may have the same device special file as the old one did.
c.
If you change the configuration of USB devices attached while a system is running
and leave any of those changes in place across a reboot, the mapping of device
special files to USB devices may change.
For these reasons, it is always advisable to check the mapping of device special file to USB
device before using it to make sure you are accessing the device you desire.
3) When you upgrade to this new version of the USB driver, you may wish to remove obsolete
device special files from your system to avoid confusion.
4) No more than 16 USB devices can be attached to a given system at any one time.
5) Ensure that all optical media used is clean and undamaged. Otherwise, I/O errors may
result in missing data or other failures.
6) Before you detach any USB device from the system or remove media from an optical drive,
make sure you umount any file systems using the device and that any IO to the device has
been halted.
DVD-write Usage Notes
DVD-write capability is supported with write capable DVD drives with the following provisos:

DVD+R and DVD+RW media are the only media types supported.
