All-in-One Storage Manager
Issue:
Growing iSCSI LUN fails during heavy SQL Server load
If a user migrates a SQL Server database to the All-in-One Storage System using
All-in-One Storage Manager (ASM) and then later at empts to increase the
storage space al ocated to the database while there is heavy SQL Server usage,
Description
an ASM task failure may occur. The failure text is:
Failed to grow iSCSI LUN
After this failure occurs, ASM wil also report that its discovery is failing.
Repeat the task to increase the al ocated storage when there is less SQL Server
load on the application server and the failure should not occur.
Workaround To fix the related discovery issue, restart the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target
service and then select Action > Refresh from the ASM menu bar.
Issue:
All-in-One Storage Manager migration tasks may fail after all available drives letters are
consumed on application server
When a task is performed using All-in-One Storage Manager (ASM) that includes
Description
creating a new drive on an application server that is already using all of its
possible drive let ers, the task wil fail.
Workaround Unmount any unused volumes or network shares that are consuming drive letters
on the application server and then repeat the task in ASM.
Issue:
Exchange Server 2007 logs an error (Event ID 9782 ) in event log when a snapshot is taken
from All-in-One Storage Manager.
When a snapshot of an Exchange 2007 Storage Group is taken by All-in-One
Storage Manager, the snapshot succeeds but Exchange logs an error in the
application event log on the Exchange server. This error (shown below) is
expected, and occurs because Al -in-One Storage Manager intentional y does
Description
not mark the VSS snapshot as successful. When a VSS snapshot is reported as
successful, Exchange truncates its log files for the Storage Group, but this may
not be desirable in the case of a snapshot which does not typically provide the
same data protection as a backup done via a backup application such as the
integrated Data Protector Express.
Workaround The error may be ignored. The successful snapshot will appear in the list of
snapshots in the Data Protection tab of All-in-One Storage Manager.
Issue:
Snapshots of application data taken from All-in-One Storage Manager will fail with
VSS_E_PROVIDER_VETO error if the application server is also a Domain Controller.
VSS_E_PROVIDER_VETO error should always be accompanied by a reason for
the veto logged in the Windows application event log on the application server.
There wil likely be an error from the WTSnapshotProvider with an error code
Description
of 0x80070005 (Access Denied) as shown below. This occurs because the
Windows user ASMUser created on the application server by the ASM Agent
installer, automatically becomes a domain user when the application server is a
domain controller. When this happens, there are no matching credentials on the
AiO server to complete the snapshot.
Workaround On the AiO server, add the user domain\ASMUser as a member of the local
Administrators group, where domain represents the name of your domain.
