Never use detergents, abrasive powders, highly perfumed cleaning products or wax polishes to clean the interior as this will damage the surface and leave a strong odour. Once a year remove the ventilation grill at the base of the appliance and clean the air channels with a vacuum cleaner. This operation will improve the performance of the appliance and save electricity consumption. CAUTION! Take care of not to damage the cooling system. Many proprietary kitchen surface cleaners contain chemicals that can attack/damage the plastics used in this appliance. For this reason it is recommended that the outer casing of this appliance is only cleaned with warm water with a little washing-up liquid added. After cleaning, reconnect the equipment to the mains supply. 10 10 Care and cleaning Defrosting of the refrigerator PF Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost water drains out through a trough into a special container at the back of the appliance, over the motor compressor, where it evaporates. It is important to periodically clean the defrost water drain hole (F) situated under the salad drawers to prevent the water overflowing and dripping onto the food inside. Use the special cleaner provided (P), which you will find already inserted into the drain hole. Defrosting the freezer A certain amount of frost will always form around the top compartment. Defrost the freezer when the frost layer reaches a thickness of about 3-5 mm. To remove the frost, do these steps: 1. Switch off the appliance. 2. Remove any stored food, wrap it in several layers of newspaper and put it in a cool place. 3. Open the door. 4. When defrosting is completed, dry the interior thoroughly. 5. Switch on the appliance. 6. Set the temperature regulator to obtain the maximum coldness and run the appliance for two or three hours using this setting. 7. Reload the previously removed food into the compartment. WARNING! Never use sharp metal tools to scrape off frost from the evaporator as you could damage it. Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing process other than those recommended by the manufacturer. A temperature rise of the frozen food packs, during defrosting, may shorten their safe storage life. What to do if… 11 Cleaning the air channels 1. Remove the plinth (1), then the ventilation grid (2). 2. Clean the ventilation grid. 3. Carefully pull the air deflector out (3), checking that there is no water left from the defrosting. 4. Clean the lower part of the appliance with a vacuum cleaner. 321 Periods of non-operation When the appliance is not in use for long periods, take the following precautions: 1. disconnect the appliance from electricity supply 2. remove all food 3. defrost and clean the appliance and all accessories 4. leave the door/doors open to prevent unpleasant smells. If the cabinet will be kept on, ask somebody to check it once in a while to prevent the food inside from spoiling in case of a power failure. WHAT TO DO IF… WARNING! Before troubleshooting, disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket. Only a qualified electrician or competent person must do the troubleshooting that is not in this manual.
