Terminology
INBOX, OUTLOG, and WASTEBASKET folders automatically created and maintained
by TRANSFER, correspondents can define other folders for a depot.
foreign correspondent. User of a messaging system on a computer that is not a Tandem
system, but that supports package exchange with Tandem TRANSFER correspondents
through the X.400 protocol.
interest group. A group of correspondents who share a common interest, function, or
purpose. Interest groups are also described simply as groups. To share information
about their common project, members of an interest group share access to various
group folders and distribution lists. Interest group administrators—who can include
the group creator, ADMIN system administrator, and designated correspondents—
manage the shared folders and distribution lists.
interest group administrator. The administrator of an interest group. A person having
special privileges in order to control the interest group's membership (adding and
deleting members, for example) and to manage the shared distribution lists and
folders of the interest group. One or more persons may be granted group
administrative privileges for the same interest group.
item. A unit of TRANSFER information. Items include TRANSFER headers, messages,
and attachments. TRANSFER packages are also items.
In discussions of storage statistics, an item is a collection of data composed of (1) one
or more records that describe the attributes and composition of the item or (2) one or
more data records. An item usually contains only one kind of data. It can be a simple
item, which is an item with no other items connected to it, or a component item, which
is an item that is attached to one or more other items, each of which may be either a
simple item or a component item. External objects can be attached as part of an item.
member. A name added to a distribution list or registered with the depot of an interest
group. For a distribution list, a member can be the name of a correspondent, an
interest group, or another distribution list. A member of an interest group can be a
correspondent or another interest group.
model depot. A standard depot that can be copied to set up new depots when new
correspondents or interest groups are registered. A default model depot is shipped
with TRANSFER; you can customize it to suit requirements at your site.
node. A Tandem computer system that is part of a Tandem network; in ADMIN it
refers to a system on which TRANSFER is installed.
package. A collection of information that can be sent from one correspondent or
interest group to other correspondents and interest groups.
pattern. A partial name that you type when requesting a list of names of
correspondents, interest groups, folders, or distribution lists. You can type one or
more asterisks (*) to indicate where in the name any character may appear. Only those
names matching the pattern are listed. A pattern is like a wild-card name, but it does
not have to identify a unique name.
profile. A collection of attributes that describes an individual or group depot or the
system as a whole. In TRANSFER the attributes of the depot specified in the
