About This Manual
Prerequisite Knowledge
Availability Information in
Tandem provides several manuals which address issues of availability. Availability
Tandem Manuals
refers to end-user availability—that is, the amount of time an application running on a
Tandem system can be used effectively by a user of that application. The following list
describes Tandem manuals that contain information about automation, performance
management, problem management, change management, security management and
other availability topics:
Introduction to NonStop Operations Management provides automation, performance
management, change management, problem management, and security
management information.
Availability Guide for Change Management provides information about typical
changes and their causes, how to change a NonStop system while it is operational,
and how to reduce the time required for planned outages. This manual also
includes an overview of Tandem’s online change tools.
Availability Guide for Problem Management provides problem prevention, detection,
and recovery information. This manual also contains information about
automating problem detection and recovery tasks and provides an overview of
Tandem’s problem management tools.
Availability Practices Guide provides guidelines, procedures, and tips that can be
used to improve the availability of NonStop systems or applications.
Security Management Guide provides suggestions, guidelines, and tool descriptions
for administering the security process.
IBM Manuals
In addition to the Tandem manuals listed in the two previous subsections, you may
need to refer to IBM documentation for information about SNA networking and
configuration. The following manuals provide general information for SNA and
specificinformation for the LU 6.2 protocol that you may find useful:
Systems Network Architecture Concepts and Products presents an overview of an
SNA network, and is suggested reading for a first exposure to SNA.
Systems Network Architecture LU 6.2 Reference: Peer Protocols is the formal definition
of the LU 6.2 protocol, and is intended for system programmers and others who
need detailed information about LU 6.2. It contains specifications for all the LU 6.2
finite state machines (FSMs) referenced by SNAX/APC, describes of all the
messages and message flows, and provides details about the function of each
component of a type 6.2 LU.
Systems Network Architecture Technical Overview continues the introduction begun
in the concepts and products manual. It explains how SNA functions combine to
provide communications facilities.
Systems Network Architecture Reference Summary provides a technical summary of
the structure and use of SNA and is an invaluable tool for anyone having to
analyze an SNA session. It contains descriptions of all messages that flow in SNA
sessions. This document updates some of the information listed in the format and
protocol manual.
