Tandem X.25 Features and Capabilities
Flexible Call-Setup
gateways. If the RPOA selection facility is used, the call-request packet contains a list
of specific RPOAs, which have been selected to handle that call.
The RPOA attribute can be specified for either a line or a subdevice. If both the line
and subdevice attribute are specified, the subdevice attribute is used. The user
application can also specify a dynamic value for a subdevice. The dynamic value
overrides the value set by SCF and stays in effect until the subdevice is closed.
Call User Data
Another option available through X25AM, though not an optional user facility, is
Specification and Retrieval
transmitting a Call User Data field of up to 16 bytes in a Call Request Packet. The
permitted length of the CUD field depends on which X25AM protocol is configured
for the particular subdevice.
The Call User Data field appears only in call set-up packets. An optional field, the
CUD can include additional information about the call-setup, such as information that
identifies the type of calling device (protocol ID), information that can be used to assist
the billing of calls, or to reach the final called device.
Note
The Call User Data field should not be confused with the User Data field, which appears in data packets.
The capability to specify and retrieve the CUD field is a new feature of X25AM, provided with C30.08 and
later versions of software. Prior releases allowed users to specify only the protocol ID (the first 4 bytes of
the CUD) for a PTP subdevice.
The Call User Data field for this option is much smaller than the CUD field that can besent using the fast
select facility. Also, this CUD field can only be included in call-setup packets; whereas, fast-select allows
a CUD field to be included with both call-setup and call-disconnect packets.
You can use SCF to specify the entire CUD field for a call by defining the CUD
attribute for a subdevice The user application can also specify a dynamic value for the
CUD field of a subdevice. In addition, an incoming call from another station resets the
value of the CUD field to a dynamic value. The dynamic value overrides the value set
by SCF and stays in effect until the subdevice is closed.
Network Defaults
Public and private data networks implement port-numbering (subaddressing), PAD-
parameter values, and other network addressing conventions in various ways.
X25AM makes it easier for you to select the appropriate conventions for your network
by providing a configuration option that lets you specify the name of a set of network
characteristics for the X25AM line (NETID attribute). You can specify this network set
either through SYSGEN or SCF. The network set (as indicated by the NETID attribute
or SYSGEN modifier) provides the appropriate default settings for port-numbering
PAD-parameters, and other network-dependent addressing conventions for your
network
You can also specify a different set of network characteristics to be used for
call-request packets from a particular subdevice (REMOTENET attribute). Some
networks require a default PAD profile that differs from the standard default profile.
You can select one of these alternative PAD profiles by specifying the REMOTENET
attribute with SCF. For detailed information on PAD profiles available with
REMOTENET, refer to the SCF Reference Manual for X25AM. If you do not specify the
