Glossary
Project subvolume. The subvolume in which the Pathmaker product creates a project
catalog and other project files. You specify the project subvolume when you first add
a project by using the PROJECT program. See also Work subvolume.
Prompt text. The brief, explanatory text associated with a particular function key or
data field on a screen. For example, in the Pathmaker product the prompt text for
function key F2 on most screens is Update. The Pathmaker product provides a screen
on which you can specify the prompt text for a function key and indicate whether you
want it displayed on the application screen. You can specify prompt text for a data
field by using the HEADING clause in DDL or by using the Display Detail screen in
the Pathmaker product.
Pseudofield. A screen element used to display or send values that do not have DDL
definitions. The Pathmaker product provides a predefined set of pseudofields for
displaying information like the current time and date on the application screen. A
subset of this predefined set of pseudofields can be sent to services.
Record instance. The attributes of a single reference object in a database requester that
are displayed on the Record Instance Detail screen.
Reference object. A data item defined in a RECORD or DEFINITION specification in
the application's DDL description, a NonStop SQL table object name, or a logical copy
of such an item; that is used by a requester, screen, or service.
Registered requester. A requester that you have written outside of the Pathmaker
environment; one that the Pathmaker product does not produce. To be integrated
with a Pathmaker project, it must be entered in the project's catalog.
Release number. A code that designates the release date of a Tandem product. The
release number begins with a letter and is followed by a two-digit number. For
example, this manual documents the D20 release of the Pathmaker product .
Repetition. A record that is displayed more than once on an application screen for a
database requester. Multiple repetitions of a record are created by using the Record
Instance Detail screen.
The phrase more than one repetition applies to a record that has a value greater than
one on the Repetition field of the Record Instance Detail screen; the phrase multiple
occurrences
applies to groups and fields that are defined in DDL with an OCCURS
clause. Only DB requesters can have records with more than one repetition; TRNS,
MENU, and DB requesters can have fields that have more than one occurrence.
Report. A listing of information from your project's catalog or from your application's
database. The Pathmaker product provides a number of standard Enform reports
showing such information as object types defined in the catalog, service and server
structure, relationships between requesters, and many more details. To handle reports
that extract information from your application database, you must write the requesters
and servers.
Requester. 1. A process controlling the interaction between servers and users. A
requester can control terminal displays; accept, interpret, and validate input from the
end user; request database access through servers; and return information to the end
