As a real-time and trend monitoring software, OVNPM provides rich features to manage HP NonStop servers.
Providing comprehensive and robust manageability features along with web browser support for monitoring
critical events, OVNPM offers a highly flexible solution that allows measurement of your service level standards
and planning for future business needs.
Some of the features are:
Real-Time Performance Monitoring
OVNPM has the ability to display the event states stored in the short-term database in real-time and in replay
mode. Each view can combine information collected from any of the data sources used. The display interval can
easily be modified to show the view in time ranging from 15 minutes to 16 hours.
Historical Trend Analysis and Capacity Planning
Information stored in the long term OVNPM database can be retrieved to perform trend analysis and plan future
needs using the Trend module. The objects can be viewed through histograms or a detailed profile can be
generated. Histograms display information for a day, a month or a year depending on your specifications, while
profiles show an average day's performance based on the performance metric values for a month or a year. The
Trend module displays not only averages but more importantly, it highlights peaks in resource consumption.
Web-Browser Support for Monitoring Critical Events
The Navigator module available with OVNPM enhances the flexibility of monitoring system performance through
OVNPM. Providing the ability to monitor events through a web-browser like the Microsoft Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator, this module complements the OVNPM GUI. The Navigator module is integrated with the
OVNPM GUI allowing you to access the Navigator web-browser drill-down through the OVNPM Interface. This

also allows you to view many reports from a web-browser from anywhere you have Internet access.
Performance Alerts
OVNPM has the ability to detect performance exception conditions and generate performance Alert Events.
Exception conditions can be based on either Application and/or System performance metrics. Alerts can occur
by either an individual or combination of metrics and can be defined using both thresholds and duration.
Alert threshold definitions are entirely menu driven and no programming is required to define a performance
threshold. Alarm escalation can also be achieved by setting multiple alerts with different severity levels and
messages for the same metric. Time parameters can be defined for each threshold to prevent alarms from being
triggered by spikes.
Business Application Support
OVNPM provides the ability to group NonStop performance metric. This allows users to define application
groups consisting of processes, data files, and resources, which together perform a specific business function.
With the use of OVNPM’s web browser interface, Operation Staff can not only identify real-time bottlenecks
quickly, but are also immediately become aware of which Business function is affected.
OVNPM’s support for Application groups is also important when analyzing NonStop Server performance trends.
Application Group performance data can greatly assist in determining future application resources requirements.
Integration with other HP Operations Solutions
The OVNPM product provides both a solid standalone solution and integration with the following HP Operations
products.

HP OVNM – HP Operations Manager
HP OVNPM provides a Plug-in for HP Operations Agent for NonStop (OVNM) product. This plug-in
enables performance exception alarms to be viewed in HP Operations Manager console and other
supported Enterprise Managers, giving Operation staff the ability to detect NonStop Server performance
bottleneck. Once detected, Operations staff can invoke a web browser within the HP Operations Manager
console to get immediate access to NonStop performance data.

HP Operations Manager Reporter
HP OVNPM provides a reporter component for creating Web-based reports from data gathered from HP
Nonstop Managed Nodes. It gathers data based on pre-defined lists of metrics and formats the collected
data into Web page reports. Reporter reports can relate to ALL systems, system groups and individual
systems. Data is graphed and displayed in a variety of formats that allow you to quickly assess system
performance.
