The following paragraphs suggest what to do to correct specific problems.

Session Termination Due to
If sessions are terminated because of negative responses, there is probably a BIND

problem. Carefully review the BIND request and the negative response to discover the
SNA protocol violation. If the violation is by the SNAX/HLS server, contact your
Tandem system analyst. If the violation is by a session partner, refine the BIND image
to correct the problem.
Session Terminated Due to
If sessions are terminated because of errors reported by the Tandem SNA access

method (that is, SNAX/XF or SNAX/CDF), there is probably a configuration problem

or a protocol violation by a session partner. Review the device or Network Control
Program (NCP) generation and correct the configuration of the Tandem SNA access
method as needed.
If no communication is possible, there might be a problem with the physical
connection between the Tandem device and the end node device or between the
Tandem device and the NCP. Check the requirements for modem strappings with
your installation’s technical support analyst.
Translation Mismatches
If messages are garbled, there is probably a translation mismatch. Review and
reconcile the characterset of the Tandem SNA access method being used by
SNAX/HLS, the TRANSLATE attribute of the PROFILE object, and the requirements
of the device or gateway application code sets. In particular, don’t specify translation
twice.

General Documentation
Provide your Tandem analyst with the following documentation for any problem:
The full banner text produced by SNAX/HLS. The version field of the PEEK
command of the HLSCOM utility provides this information. The banner text is
also recorded in SNAX/HLS trace files and can be obtained using the VPROC
utility.
The SNAX/HLS log file listing from fifteen minutes before the problem until the
problem occurred.
The OPRLOG file or the EMS collector file from approximately 15 minutes before
the problem occurred until the problem occurred.
A SNAX/HLS trace of all records from five minutes before the problem until it
occurred, or from execution of the relevant OPEN-SESSION or HLS-ALLOCATE
verb until the problem occurred.
