Glossary
switched connection. A temporary association established between two PUs when a PU
accepts a call-in. This connection can be initiated in many different ways, such as a
telephone dial operation or a call-out request packet on a packet switched network. A
PU may receive a call-in after enabling a network port with a SNAX/CM allow-call-in
request. The call-in request results from a call-out request issued by a remote PU.
switched floating LU. An LU that is subordinate to a switched floating PU. When a
switched floating PU becomes subordinate to a line, all switched floating LUs
subordinate to that switched floating PU also become subordinate to the line.
switched floating PU. A PU that is not permanently subordinate to any line, but rather is
temporarily subordinate to the service manager ($SSCP) until it is becomes
temporarily subordinate to a switched line because it is needed.
switched line. A telecommunications line in which the connection between the
computer and a remote station is established by dialing (through various circuit
switches). Sometimes called a dial-up line. See also nonswitched line; leased line.
switched virtual circuit (SVC) In a packet-switched network, a temporary virtual circuit
between two users. The SVC defines the virtual circuit used to communicate with the
Tandem host system in a direct, point-to-point connection.
SXCMGR. A set of executable connection management procedures that provide the
internal protocol for SNAX/CM to interface with SNAX/XF.
SXCMGR server interface. The messages issued by SXCMGR to a user-written connection
manager server process.
SXCMSV. A Tandem-provided example of a user-written server process that works
with SNAX/CM. This example is provided for purposes of illustration only and is not
supported. See also SNAX/CM server.
system generation (SYSGEN). A Tandem system generation program used to tailor the
operating system for a specific hardware and software configuration. SYSGEN is a
subset of INSTALL that creates a system image only. The SYSGEN process can be
divided into three phases: configuring the system, generating the operating system,
and installing the operating system.
System Services Control Point (SSCP). The focal point within an SNA network for
managing the configuration, coordinating network-operator and problem-
determination requests, and providing directory support and other session services for
end users of the network. Multiple SSCPs, cooperating as peers, can divide the
network into domains of control, with each SSCP having a hierarchical control
relationship to the physical units and logical units within its domain.
SYSGEN. See system generation.
TACL. Tandem Advanced Command Language.
Tandem Advanced Command Language (TACL). A Tandem product that provides the user
interface to the operating system. The ITI protocol is used by the Tandem command
interpreter TACL.
